It's not that it's "bad" for the camera, it's just that it involves starting/stopping the tape drive a whole lot. So if you were going to do a week-long time lapse of every second or so, that might be a bit much. But for a reasonable timelapse it shouldn't be a problem; the camera's made to perform, after all.
