Time Lapse with the FS-100

I may have missed something, but I can't figure out how to utilize the Interval recording on the firestore FS-100. I am running the HVX with no tapes, no P2's, directly to the FS-100, but the camera isn't recognizing the firewire port in any alternative recording modes. Anyone have any idea what I'm missing...Thanks
 
Set the HVX to a regular, non-naitive mode, leave it. Do NOT press record on the HVX.

Set the FS-100 to Time Lapse, hit record on the FS-100.
