Time Lapse Shutter Speeds

Tommorow, I am filming a construction project for 9 hours with my DVX100. I have it on Interval Record for every 30 seconds for 1 second. Should I keep it on AUTO to deal with light changes, etc...I have been reading there are better shutter speeds for time lapse but I was thinking of keeping the shutter off. Also, do I need to worry about the sun with interval record? If anyone has any suggestions, I am open. Thanks

auto exposure could work if you want to to be able to see the subject better as the sun goes down. but if you want to see day change to night naturally then lock the exposure.
