Hello

I am going to do a time lapse shoot this weekend.

The DVX 100B can shoot time lapse (interval timing) in 30p only - correct?

But if i were to shoot 24p would I just have to tape continuesly and just edit it down - correct??

THX!!

Hey there

thanks for your response!

So i can just record non-stop and then speed up in post - correct?

And and it doesn't matter what frame rate i shoot in - correct?

Thanks again!

Yes. That's correct. Also, I believe they stopped doing the interval recording on the "B" model all together... not just in 24P.

Shoot in whatever mode you wish, and speed it up in post. If you need more than an hour, buy a longer tape, and record in LP mode (at a small loss of quality, of course, but if it's sped way up, you won't notice).

There is no quality loss in LP mode, but the chances are you will only be able to play back the tape on the camera you recorded it on with out drop outs.

Really?? Why is that? the differrent speed?

EDIT:

Found this after a bit of searching:

There will be absolutely no difference in the quality of the picture or sound. Because the tape is moving slower, each piece of information is written to a smaller area. Because of this, there is a greater risk of dropouts caused by data not being read correctly. The greater risk of dropouts, and greater incompatibility between cameras, is the main reason most people recommend avoiding LP. Otherwise, you can't tell the difference between SP and LP.

the difference is in the correction bits
in SP mode for 9 bit there are 6 (parity) correction bits
in LP mode there is only a bit for 8 bits
so you can write about the same data with lower speed

Interesting.
