Time Lapse not possible on 100B?

Hello all,

I'm sure it's me, but I'm reading this in the DVX book and I can't imagine it's true. It seems like time lapse photography was possible in the DVX100 and the DVX100A, but was removed from the DVX100B. Did I misinterpret that? Not that I need that feature every single day, but it would have been cool to have it if possible.

Whaddaya think?

You did not misinterpret. In the move towards the new tape transport, interval recording was lost. The tape transport is entirely different in the 100B vs. the older cameras, and this new tape transport doesn't support the interval feature.

How would you achieve what -- doing time lapse on a camera that doesn't do time lapse? Well... um... I guess you'd have to go about it in one of about three different ways:

1) if it's a relatively short sequence (like a sunrise), just run the tape at full speed and then speed it up in post to look like time-lapse

2) if you can get the camera cabled to a computer, use a computer program to capture a frame at set intervals

3) borrow/rent a DVX100A for the timelapse shots.

I didn't know it doesn't do timelapse, not that I want it to sit there for hours and have the meter running.
they should have fixed that too, that the camera shows the time that the cam was "ON" and not actual recording time. they should have made it so that shows just the rec time.

I believe, but could be wrong, that the meter only runs if the heads are spinning on a tape. Which makes perfect sense. You want to know how long the heads are spinning, not just when the tape is rolling.
