Time Lapse and needing to lose/gain ND?

Ok I searched the forum and couldn't find anything on this.

I have been shooting some time lapse footage mostly at 1s or 2s intervals. For long sunset/sunrise shots, sometimes I need to throw an ND on or start with one on and then take it off. However, any time I do this, even if on auto iris, there is always one frame with a blatant change in exposure right as I take the ND off. Is there any way to get around this?

Also do you all use auto iris for any of your time lapse footage?

Thanks

Set your exposure and sit back and wait.

That's about all you can do.

Clouds and the sun going behind the horizon will mess with auto exposure.

I shot all the TL on a HVX

One technique I did use was to manually change my iris every 1/2 an hour... bit of calculation of sunset is involved but you'll get a smoother opening up of the iris as the sun sets.

Hey Chris

All the TL for the Sarah Bettens video was in White House TN and Radnor Lake.

Small world.

PM me if you ever need anything.. I'm in Nashville.

Hey small world indeed. That is a really well put together video! What interval did you use for most of the TL?

And its always good to meet more people around here in the business!

Flower speeds depended on how quickly the flower bloomed... iris' are really quick day lillies take forever

Most of the sky was at 30 sec intervals.
