Hello

I am looking to do some time laps/interval recording with an HVX200.

Specifically like clouds moving and/or a sunset.

Can i do this in 720p/24pn or do i need to switch that up.

As for the other settings would shooting 1 frame every 2 seconds work for the scenes I am looking to capture?

Thanks,C

You can set any interval you want, you just have to be in video cam mode, not film. I don't think you can use 24p, only 30 or 60. See page 47 in the manual. You would calculate your interval based on how many minutes or hours of final clip you wanted based on needing 30 frames per second. For example you want to compress 30 minutes of a sunset to one minute. One minute is 60 secs x 30 fps = 1800 frames needed over 30 minutes, or 1800/30 = 60 frames per minute, or shoot one frame every second.

I've done several time lapses (Example ) myself.

I would do a couple tests to find what rate is best for you. I would always shoot more frames than less because you can always speed up footage without any major drawbacks but you cannot effectively slow it down if your rate is too fast.

You can use the frame rate hack for 24pN mode or use the cameras interval mode in 30p. I suggest shooting in 1080 if you are going to use the interval mode.

Just to show you the math: 1 frame every 2 seconds at 24fps = 1 minute of footage for every 48 minutes of shooting. That would probably be good for clouds but the sun may run a little slow to your eye. But like I said above you can always speed it up a little in post.
