Time Freeze (Dolly Shot)

OK...I am shooting a commerical where i need a time freeze shot, and i know the technique needed to do it...but i want to add a more professional look to the shot, by moving the dolly slightly from right to left revealing the time freeze shot!!Does any body have any idea how to do that in terms of shooting and post-production?Thanks!

I would be interested in knowing what technique you'll be using.

Are we talking about "bullet time" or something practical (people standing still)?

No.. i am talking about Andrew Kramer's time freeze technique..where there is a person or two who are freezed and the third person passing by them or looking at them..but i need to add dolly move to it!!Thanks,

What are you shooting / delivering in? If you're shooting in HD, but only have to deliver in SD, why not just Ken Burns the shot?

Forgive me if this is a "no duh noob" suggestion but didn't they use several DSLRs to get a freeze time shot in the first Matrix? Could you buy/rent/borrow a couple dozen entry level DSLRs and mount them in a line the way you want your shot to move?

Timing them to fire at the same time would be the hardest part I'd think and even a entry level DSLR takes decent photos.

Hawk..i am shooting in HD and not delivering in SD..and what do u mean by Ken Burns the Shot?

And Patrick that's not the effect i am looking for ( The Matrix )....I am talking about the time freeze like in the show heroes..where everything is freezing and a person is not...and i just wnat to add a slight dolly move from right to left!!

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Hawk's solution is simplest. In AE, increase the shot's scale to provide you with room to pan. Obviously, you'll need to keep this in mind before shooting.

you would need to do some motion tracking if its going to be moving, also make sure you have a "clean plate" (shot without the the people in it, only the bg) moving the same way as you did when they were still in the shot.

Then you will A/B over the two shots and rotoscope the people, and applying a freeze in time.

Ken Burns was this guy that made slideshows ... interesting. He really used keyframing in photos to give them a pan / dolly / etc feel to just photos. When you "Ken Burns" something, it's just giving it a little movement (i.e., keyframe the center of the shot from a little left to a little right to make it look like the camera is moving, OR add a camera, push in a little, and pan the shot just a little to give it some motion).

EDIT: If that's not your cup of tea, you could always green screen the shot. Freeze everything on your GB, and keep your keyed actor in motion. This would make motion tracking a little easier I would imagine as you'd just parent his track to the background. And since it can't be covered up (the motion track point) since it's on a picture (more or less), it wouldn't be hard. Just be careful when color correcting or it will look keyed.

Could you not do some camera projection here to add the movement to the still footage?

EDIT: Whoops, just realized this thread is super old.
