Time code

I am new to the DVX, and have used smaller hand held camcorders in the past.
When I am shooting with my DVX, and I start with a new tape, shouldn't the time code reset or should it continue? I have now used about 15 minutes of a new tape, but the time code is at 34 minutes.
I am a little confused... (sorry if this is a really stupid problem, but I am confused).
 
There's a menu setting for this. I'm too lazy to pull out my manual right now, but it shouldn't be hard for you to find.
