Time code skipping

I have a standard DVX-100. Occasionally, time code skips ahead or back (even worse). This creates an obvious problem with batch capturing in FCP. I can't figure out a pattern for what may cause this. I teach part time at a film center and they have also had this problem with their DVX-100's. I heard one theory is leaving the camera in standby mode too long without recording (tape slippage on the recording head). Anyone else had this problem? Ways to avoid the problem? Solutions? Any info from Panasonic on this issue?

Make you don't switch back and forth between record & player mode to view your footage and then record again, sometimes that triggers it. We had a 20 minute gap one time.
