TIme code confusion

I had been shooting a GL1 for several years until I recently got a DVX. With the GL 1 you put in a tape, the time code is 0:00:00:00 and away you go. This business with the DVX is a whole different world. I'm on maybe my fourth or fifth tape with it so I am still finding my way. Well I just popped a recent tape into the deck and the starting TC was 2:12:41:22!!! Obviously, somebody wasn't paying attention.

I don't understand this. Despite reading Mr. Green's otherwise comprehensive book these choices make no sense to me. I can't fathom the use of the TC choices. What setting replicates--or at least approximates--the "new tape=0:00:00:00" of the GL 1?

you can reset it by pressing a button on the panel where the LCD goes in... think it's "reset counter"

not 100% sure if that's what oyu do, but might as well try

It is very frustrating on post to have all source from tapes start at the same timecode.

Either set timecode for each tape where tape 001 starts at 01:00:00:00, tape 002 starts at 02:00:00:00 etc. or

Shoot time of day where the timecode can at least be used as a reference where the tape combined with the shoot date and timecode can be used when asked - remember that shot we took last Tuesday after lunch? Sort by shoot date, look for clips in the range of 13:00:00:00 to 17:00:00:00 etc.

For new tape=0:00:00:00, go into the menus and choose the timecode options. Set it to "regen" instead of "preset". And set it to "rec run" instead of "free run". Doing so (regen/rec run) will emulate the timecode behavior of the GL1.
