Time Code Breaks & Cleaning heads?

Hi,

I'm a semi-new DVX user. I'm curious to know, why do time code breaks occur?

I'm currently in the log and capture phase and instead of capturing the whole tape at once I find myself frequently confronted with breaks. Therefore, I have to capture a single tape in 2-3 "Batches".

Are time code breaks indicative of mis-operation of the camera? Dirty heads?

Secondly, I've had my DVX100B for about one year. Five months of heavy shooting in the outdoors. Is there anyway to send my camera in to get cleaned? Is cleaning the heads a fairly routine maintenance issue habit to get into with these cameras?

Thanks for any tips!

Don't know where you're from, but Full Compass does a professional cleaning for around $50, I have one locally here in Wi. and have used them before.......as to the timecode problem are you using the blank search feature after you capture, if not the timecode will start over everytime you shoot a new segment.

You should not see TC breaks. Maybe small TC breaks (glitch) during the capture, but no TC breaks that reset the TC to 00.

If stop and playback the footage in VCR mode, be sure to stop it before the end of the tape, or use the blank search feature as stated above.

i have the same problem, i get time code breaks every five seconds along with glitches, i also have 700 hours on the heads i think running a head cleaning tape through my capture cam may clear things up a bit...
