Tim Burton's Secret Formula

A reviewer made the point that Burton's films are usually about eccentric outsiders in conflict with their mundane surroundings, while this film is the exact opposite story, a mundane person in conflict with eccentric surroundings, explaining why it just kind of lays there like a turd.

I think that reviewer was trying to be cute. His movies are about eccentric outsiders in eccentric surroundings. Like rainbow ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. Too much of the same thing. From foreground to background and on the fringes his movies are too Burtonesque, for lack of a better word.

I really don't understand how or why. I don't know ANYONE who likes the film. Not even a little.

$667m is overseas. I had a few lady friends that saw it, they liked it, they are the only people I know who have seen it.

Ditto...wife dragged me to this. Can someone explain to me what was at stake in this story and why I was supposed to care about anything that happened?

Nothing. It's nonsense from beginning to end. And that's a double-down with Burton.

I did (and some people I know...)..Maybe because I don't really care about the story but I only look at the visuals... I don't know... And even if people don't like it, first to dislike they have to go and see it...And the ticket cost 10€ here (for the 3d imax version). Calculate and you'll see why.

I really don't want to see it only because I'm not into the fantasia type of stories. Disney I can go for though.

I think Burton has many moments of brilliance but can't seem to pull it all together. Maybe it's his team or a number of other things. I think he's capable of doing something great but it keeps going sideways for some reason. Maybe time will take care of it. I think he just hasn't found the right team yet.
