Tilta vs. Lanparte Rigs/Follow Focus?

Hi Guys,

I've been working on narrowing down rig options, and I've arrived at the mid-range Chinese options from Tilta and Lanparte. I've heard a couple of good things about both, but there isn't much in the way of first-hand commentary around. So I'm wondering if anyone who has handled either the Lanparte or the Tilta gear can share their thoughts on the quality and performance.

I'm particularly interested in how their Follow Focusses perform. I'm shooting on SLR lenses, so the fact that both feature adjustable hard stops on their follow focusses holds a lot of appeal.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I haven't had the chance to take it into the field yet, but I just got a Lanparte full rig with (non hardstop) FF and it is very very high quality IMO. There is zero backlash evident in the FF. All of the machining appears top notch. 4

I'm not real sure how spending twice as much on a big name could have increased the actual quality to any degree. It might could be made to look slightly more trick and weigh maybe an ounce less, but I doubt it could function any better.

I do have the complete Professional Kit from Lanparte and I can guarantee you it is worth every penny. There is also another user in this forum that have tried the Tilta with its basic DSLR kit. But I am having problem communicating with Huang from Tilta and hence I opted the Lanparte and didn't regret in doing so. According to the history, Tilta used to be manufactured by Lanparte factory but after they got their own brand name, now they are doing it themselves.

What I can rest assured is that the Follow Focus is very precise and almost NO PLAY at all! I will be doing a full review of the rig soon but till then, I do highly recommend their products as I have the complete rig and really satisfied.

Thanks

I sell both the Lanparte and Tilta rigs and I can say that the Lanparte are by far more popular, and better quality.
The Tilta look great, but they're very heavy and not as versatile as the Lanparte are.

As kicap said, getting any information from Huang is next to impossible and the MoQ for distributors are quite high and hence the prices will be as well.
Jerry and the guys from Lanparte are top notch and have always been very quick to reply and sort out any issues that pop up.

I've also heard nothing but praise for the A-B Hard Stop unit from my customers.
Like kicap, I use the Complete Professional Kit for shooting and the ways with which I can change the rig and the fact that it's so modular means I don't have to worry about being caught out in a situation.

BTW, I'm in Melbourne as well - I'm waiting for my review unit to come back from overseas so if you want I'm happy to meet in the CBD for lunch and walk you through it once it arrives.
There's also a price rise which is in the pipeline from Lanparte, so now is a really good time to get in before it goes up across the board (eBay, CoolLCD, everyone!)

I'll be throwing up some video reviews etc. when it gets back.
Until then, if you want some more info just PM me and I'll send you a PDF.

Ah, terrific. Thanks for the feedback. I was actually just about to send you an email through your website to try and arrange a look at the rig.

When are you expecting the review unit back?

Sounds good!

I'm hoping to have them back within the next 2 weeks - possibly sooner...
If you want, I'll let you know as soon as they pop in?
