Tilta rig full Kit good buy for AF100?

So I've been researching the Tilta rig baseplate for my camera and have noticed this kit for sale online:

http://www.dhgate.com/tilta-3-dslr-...pport/p-ff808081365d155601365da5b71a0f4b.html

This seems it could solve a lot of issues I have. I don't have a mattebox, follow focus, good baseplate and heck, I'd really like to get into a professional battery system where I can power everything off the same batteries. Does this kit look like it's worth it? Does anyone have it? It seems like you get a lot, plus the custom flight case!

Thoughts on the Tilta rig gear?

I know several members have had good things to say about the Tilta rig. I through long and hard and decided to go with Zacuto for the base plate, shoulder set-up and handles, a Lanparte follow focus and I'm still figuring out the matte box. If you order directly from Tilta you get a better deal. I'd be very careful dealing with wholesalers selling a Chinese goods. Look on line -many, many horror stories, usually the wrong items being sent -cheaper stuff instead of the promised item. Deal with Tilta direct.

By the way, I got my Zacuto stuff through a local equipment rental/sales outfit and got all my stuff plus a Zactao EFV for under two grand.

I'm going to the Tilta factory in Shenzhen a few weeks. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions that you would like for me to relay or find out.

True, but it sounds like your rig didn't come with a matte box. Which Zacuto rig did you buy?

That’s way to much hardware. At least for me it is. I have the Tilta baseplate, hand grips and articulating arm. Thats really all I need. The rig is great. In fact I don’t like the hand grips very much. They are built very well and strong but to heavy and I don’t like having my arms in the pistol position. When the rig is balanced you don’t have to hold the camera anymore. I’m thinking about getting Olofs wood grip/tally. That would put my hand right up by the lens. More like a ENG camera. It’s more stable when you get your hand as close to the camera as posable.
I put the Lanparte power dock and AB goldmount on the back to power everything and acts as a counter weight. The articulating arm is the best. It comes with a duel rail mount.

Go to the bottom of this blog post and see pics of the pieces. I will put the rig together and take some pics later.

I use that full rig on my FS100 and could not be happier.
Great quality and finish, very versatile.

+1 for dealing wit Tilta instead of dealers.

Yeah the bulk is kinda putting me off. Especially after read how much the whole rig weighs! Do you use a matte box and follow focus too? Which ones do you have?

I do. A Chrosziel mattebox and a Trusmt follow focus. I don’t always use a mattebox. Only when I need filters or have issues with flares. I try not to use it actually. The follow focus is a must and I wish I had a better one. That will probably be my next purchase. The Trustmt is just good enough. I’m liking the rig so far and it works with my Sony VCT14 camera plate.

If you could post a pic of your rig i'd appreciate it. I'm trying to get an idea how to build up mine.

So Titla's product sales rep just send me a PDF of their pricing. Hmm...at that price, it's VERY tempting. The weight bugs me, but I could just strip the cage down.

I know this post was from a few months back; however, which local rental/sales outfit was that? Located in Saint Louis and looking to purchase a kit.

Looks fancy but don't buy that. You're not gonna get your AF100 in that rig and why would you need too? Looks to me like that cage will do nothing for your set-up other than provide a handle. THe Af100 already has a handle. That kit also looks like it's for HDSLRs, so not only will the af100 stand too tall for the cage design, you will also find that aligning up the mattebox might have issues. But that cage just looks non functional for the typical weight applied to an a f100 unless your mounting the 20-100 Cooke.

The base plate looks alright and the follow focus seems legit, but the rest looks like too much hardware. Simplify your rig A la Carte. Start with a good base plate then go from there. Think of WHAT you need to add to your rig (recorder, monitor, battery, matte and follow focus) and not "what can I add". Then decide on if it's on your shoulder more than a tripod. How do you feel comfortable operating the camera on your shoulder? Hands up on the camera? Hands on grips center gravity? What do I need to mount on this camera? EVF, recorder? How will it transfer to your tripod from shoulder? Or, how do you want it too?
I've had my AF100 rigged up on some pretty silly rigs. I take just as good as footage with just a tripod plate on it. I guess what I'm saying is think about how you USE the camera most.
Pick wisely though. "Buy cheap, buy twice".

well the cage does looks strange, and being a fan of tilta - i did not buy it, it also a lot of extra weight. but the good thing about tilta that each part is sold separately ! u dont have to buy each part if u dont need it! i just dont think its practical having that peace on your shoulder - as normally u try to get rid of all unnecessary weight when u go handheld!

it was designed for dslr - and its make sense having a good handle, but with AF100 u dont need it!

about the height - tiltas base plate gives u the lowest cam position possible among all others rigs i used, thanks to the design of it - as the shoulder peace is inside the base plate! so i completely disagree with dustylense on it! there is just like 1 inch between cam and your shoulder.

what u need is :
- base plate (includes 4 rods)
- handles (keep in mind its QR, so u can put it on and take it out with out the needs of touching any other parts of your rigs setup + they are good and for 15mm and for 19mm rods)
- FF

the rest i would say is optional:
- magic arm
- lens support
- mate box
- power splitter

but again no one told u have to buy everything...

Don't know about the AF handle, but having all the balls and whistles on my rig - from V-mount brick to Samurai, monitor sound and HDMI transmitter, FF andwhatnot, it weights about 18 lbs. I don't want to lift that around on the camera handle of my FS100 putting all the stress on the body. The two camera bolts and the plate on the bottom of the body where not made for stunts like that. So I'm pretty thankfull for the extra handle on the cage.

The cage itself is also pretty useful for me. I mount and hang everything from there and it provides extra protection, that saved my butt at least twice.
But depending on your rigging and workstyle, your mileage may vary.
