Hey guys which would you choose out of these two? I just got an F3, but have no rigs or rails or evf at the moment. looking to make it handheld for a cheap decent price.

has anyone used or have the Tilta base plate or Genesis rig? I am looking to use one without an EVF, because i won't be able to afford one for a while.

Tilta

Genesis

please let me know what you think or if you have any other recommendations. I want to make it as discreet as possible.

Thanks

of the two, you want the Tilta. the Genus looks like it was designed by someone who never shouldered a camera for more than 5 minutes. you want the weight on your shoulder, not 10" in front of it. to me, if you're willing to support all the weight on your arms, why bother with the shoulder mount, just hold the damn camera.

and that means you're going to want an evf, too.

TILTA!

I have been using it for about a year with great success. And I am selling it now, because I got a great deal on Element's riser and plate.
Tilta is great, but it does need a slight modification as described here:

http://burnspete.wordpress.com/2012...mount-baseplate-modification-for-sony-pmw-f3/

I did that with no problem in 1/2 Hour (with beer on the table as well)...

On the other hand, I do use Genus WA Matte Box for already 5 years... Great little thing, very versatile and easy to pack. With the little mod of Tilta plate as described above, the fit of Genus box is perfect!

If you want to buy my Tilta plate, let me know...

For a similar sort of price you can get a Berkey Systems setup that won't require any modifications, and the components of which will be able to carry over to your next camera too:

Grub,

Please don't get me wrong: I like Berkey stuff, I had a top plate before doing Elements body armor conversion and still use handful of bits from them. I have seen thier (and your) design of the plate in other tread, but this is still incomplete and not "battle tested". Even your nice photos does not show solution for rear end rods...

Tilta is a multi camera solution plate even as it is. Modification is required only if you want ALL THREE HOLES on the bottom of F3 to be used. It is not necessary for normal operation. The MAIN load carrying hole (rear off centered) is the only hole on F3's bottom that is part of the camera skeleton, sort of speak. And it should be utilized in any serious plate/ rod set up as it is a part of metal body of the camera it self. Other two holes (at the front) are part of the smallish (detachable) plate that is connected to camera body only by four puny screws (!!!!). I don't see from your photos that Berkey plate has this feature ( I am sure it does), but that should be stressed as main feature with any plate that is going on the bottom of F3. And that is the reason I sold my Zacuto one, as there was no way to use that off centered rear screw...

I have no idea why Sony designed like this? I know they "recycled" the little 2hole plate from EX3 design, but still! If you want to build any serious rig with your F3, that funny off centered 3rd hole is the key. Both Tilta and Elelment's plates do that very good.
Cheers.
