Hi,

Anyone have any experience fixing a slightly loose front lens element on Tokina 28-70 ATX-PRO II (2.6 - 2.8 Angenieux design)?

Basically when you change direction of your zoom, the front elements rocks ever so slightly shifting the image onto the sensor.

It's fine obviously if you use it for stills or don't record zoom movements, but I need this baby fixed up.

Cheers,

i have the same lens and had the same issue. unscrewed the mount, took out the iris ring. Pay attention here, there is a little steel ball between the ring and the inner piece that the ring sits on, which will fall out once you lift the iris ring. you can leave the lens without the ball if you like your lenses declicked btw ;).
now you should be able to see the inner yokes of the zoom ring (stainless steel, i think there are two of them, with 2 screws each) which are screwed in there. these screws were a bit loose when i had that issue. tightened them and the issue was gone... hope this helps.

Give us a report when you're done - lens repair can be kind of "Sporty", y'know??

Take some pics... if that's a common problem, people will be googling this very thread for years to come...

Yes will try to do.

I've taken apart some lenses in the long past, even removed and reinstalled iris blades... talk about fun.

hi

I haven't gotten to it yet, actually I've been looking at getting a 24-70 f2.8 Nikon now for what I believe would be much sharper images fully wide or zoomed in on the lens. I know the Tokinas, albeit very nice, have some softness issues inherent to them so exploring some options..
