Bongo ties are great. Even a twist tie does the job especially if you are trying to stabilize a camera package for steadicam or motorized gimbal.

Living and working in Beverly Hills for 12+ years (including working in Hollywood) ties are symbolic leashes- suits are worn by puppets.
I agree that there's a lot of symbolism in it, but to be fair, suit and tie takes on a very different level depending on the wearer and context.
In my experience it often means something very different in a place like Beverly Hills even versus next door in Century City. Plenty of people there choose to wear suits and ties for professional reasons and are handsomely compensated for it. I wouldn't call them puppets, I'd call them shrewd business people!
Isnt a nice jacket and nice pants a suit? Or is it only a suit if it matches? My neighbors told me to stop stealing their GQ subscription at the same time when they told me stop peeping through their windows so I’m not current on this stuff.
But seriously folks...I will wear the most comfortable thing I’m allowed at any gig. What we do is often already stressful enough without adding itchiness, sweatiness and constricted movement into the mix.
Josh, didn't you just find out that slacks and khakis weren't the same thing?Isnt a nice jacket and nice pants a suit? Or is it only a suit if it matches?
Traditional Indian wedding… No ties! No suits!
I'm only seeing suits in that picture.
I consider it a perfect proof of concept: the foreigner blending in, showing participation, appreciation and respect.
Now imagine the guy wearing jeans and a hoodie. Startling? I think so.
But seeing the recurring theme in your posts where you describe these people as puppets, drones or monkeys—I'm not so sure it's the clothing you have the actual issues with.
So in one bucket, there's the CONCEPT of Uniform, Dress Code, "Dressing Well", "Dressing Professionally," and "Dressing Respectfully", etc.
In another bucket, there is the SPECIFIC THING - the actual, concrete physical item of the "THE TIE."
With the former (the concept), I am all in.
With the later, "The Tie", I agree with the thread title: Ties are stupid.
A lot of people here figured this out intuitively- ties are stupid, so are suits, I'll pick a career path to avoid the stupidity. Now when thinking about the symbology it makes deeper sense, which opens one's mind to start looking at other symbols, what they really mean, and how that affects ones & others thoughts and society at large.
…how do we wake the people wearing suits and ties to the symbolism of those behind said symbolism pulling the strings in the shadows?
What is the symbolism of the Indian clothing vs. suits and ties? Did anyone in this thread suggest being disrespectful or unkind by wearing jeans and a hoodie to a formal event?
Since I mentioned jeans and hoodie, I feel this is directed at me. But I was the one who brought up some of the benefits of formal attire for people who don't have much money. What if a kid who couldn't afford nice clothing showed up to a formal event in jeans and a hoodie? Do we give them grief because they are poor?
Are people too uptight sometimes? Is laughing at people who take themselves too seriously disrespectful? When we look more deeply at life, most things that upset people are really about nothing.
