"Ti Ki" Experimental Sigur Ros Video

Hello everyone,

I just finished a little experimental video for Sigur Ros and I would love if you could check it out and tell me what you think.

http://codyb.com/tiki.htm

Keep in mind that it is pretty different than stuff that usually gets posted on here but I encourage you to critique as hard as you want. Also, it really does me no good to have people post comments like "I like it" or "I don't like it," if you post a reply please back up what you say whether it be postive or negative. I don't post my movies because I want to hear mild applause, I post them because I want to learn from my mistakes and get better.

thanks for watching!

Hi, I didn't like it at all...
Because I think no matter what you intend to make, you should tell something. And if not, make something that's pretty or fascinating to watch. Or at least interesting.
It's nice to see something "different", but I felt really stupid after watching through the bottom of a bottle (or whatever it was) under water with some bubbles and flashing lights during a song that's actually quite nice.
Maybe somebody enjoys watching it, but i didn't.

(By the way we own the exact same cameras, the Holga, canon and dvx100a. Stilig)

Sigur Ros is the greatest band in the world and this video seems to fit their style. If anyone has seen their official videos, they are a bit weird, different, hard to understand, but beautiful like their music. Just like their songs, your video starts off innocent and moves into something more. I think staring at a bottle for the whole song isn't interesting, but if you were to slice in some other elements like that...maybe doing that same POV (through a bottle) but traveling through real world environments...and then at the end, a piece of paper is pushed into the bottle and it's thrown into water...i dunno, this excited me, not only cuz its music from the greatest band, but the colors were very very fitting. Continue with this, i like it, and I say late one night...listen to Ágætis Byrjun or Takk... and they will help you decide where to go with this.

i think its cool for video art, but it doesnt do much to the music at all, it just annoys me.

i would find a cleaner concept where we see an object doing something in a clearer way and not blurred liked that
the bottom of the bottle thing is cool for cutaways, but it gets very old when you watch it aftetr 30 seconds

Hmmmmmmmmm

I'm torn. I can appreciate any level of experimentation within filmmaking but this seemed too much of a good thing; kind of. Just too long really. Interesting looking images, nice lighting effects, trippy and trance-like one can almost see this playing on the discotech tv.....

Like I said; I can dig almost any experimentation so perhaps this will pay off one day; of course this coming from the guy who's website has no road signs so what do I expect ?

It's cool but after more than 10 seconds its too much or nothing.

Cody,
I thoroughly enjoyed the video. I found it to be more interesting as time continued. It was very engaging, because it didn't manipulate me. It left breathing space to engage me to resolve however the visuals and music made me feel. The beauty of these abstractions is that we cannot fully resolve how we feel, which can make it frustrating for an impatient viewer, but rewarding if we give ourselves to it.
Despite what was said earlier, I feel like you could've made it longer if the song was longer. I loved it.

I'll have what he's having.

the videos on your site seem to be down, but i'd really like to see it. Is this an actuall video for the band, or just you having some fun? If so, how did you get in contact with them? Also, I noticed that another video on your site has the filename "winarabbit" is that by any chance a music video for the Animal Collective song? If so, I'd really like to see it.

I really enjoyed this piece hense my appreciation for Godard. I like the edit the most on this piece as well as the music which kept my attention all throughout..it definitely had the ER room feel from bottom bottle perspective..lol..which is pretty interesting concept. thumbs up..kepp em coming. :)

Hey Cody, this video was fine; i liked the variety of lighting effects done on the bottle. Reminded me of lighting effects during sigur ros concert three days ago, one of the most captivating shows i have ever been to. I am seized. Ti Ki does sound like bottles and bubbles i thought it was a fine match. Although i did like your who could win a rabbit video better, that one was just fun!

Cody - You've already had comments about the video, so I'm going to comment (again) on your website. If you want visitors to your website you need to give search engines something to log and to use for keywords. As is, your site will never get visitors, and that would be a shame, since the Interent needs more interesting websites. Add some copy/text to a section. It won't distract form your design, it might actually make it look more interesting. Just give the search engines somethng to grab onto so more people can enjoy your site and your photos/videos.

I could go both ways with this one too. I got bored of looking at the bottom of the bottle but I really liked when the colored lights started flashing. It was pretty. The whole time though, I did want the bottle to be clearer so I could see something in the picture besides its imperfection. But then I guess that's probably not what you were going for.

All the LSD folks in the Sixties would have love this video to death. :)

But Cody honestly the majority of people when they watch anything visual they are looking for a story or a message. If there was a message in this video I did not get it. But if this video was made for people to enhance their acid trip then hey the video is excellent. But if you want people to see your art as thought provoking then put something in the film that would make people think about a message or story .

Yeah, this was totally not my kind of piece. I like to look at things, real objects that do stuff. I don't like seeing light and a bottle.

I think doing a music video to Sigur Ros is difficult no matter what you try. But I just couldn't get into this.
