This is my first posting here, so please do not shout at me :-X

We produce short clips and would need to automatically export thumbs out of these video clips. Let us say - 30 thumbs from a 5 min clip.

Is there a software out there which we buy that will do the job for us ;)? Thank you

Martin

Re: Thumbs from Video

You can export frame grabs (the little floppy disc icon above the preview window) and then resize them to thumbnail size.

Thank you, but that sounds like the manual process I have been doing before :( :( :(

I wonder if there is any software out there, that would do the job for me, e.g. like the ACDSee 6.0.3 for photos??

When I first read it I was with you, John. I was, like, "Thumbs, wtf?" :)

sorry, guys, maybe the problem is that I am not a native speaker of English, so I should have used the word thumbnails in the first place :) Anyway, is there any software program or script out there that would help me automatically export 3-4 frames from each 1minute video clip?? I have so many video clips and need to produces frames, I mean thumbnails... Thank you, Martin

Yes, but that is boring and takes too much time (unless you want to export specific frames)

I have heard there is a software which automatically exports frames from a video clip every 5 or 10 or 30 seconds, you do not even have to open the video clip. Unfortunately, I have forgotten the name of the software ??? Somebody out there with a better memory than me????

Re: Thumbs from Video

Well, there is Scenalyzer which will allow you to capture specific frames say every 10th or 100th frame, but I don't think that would help you much. Just how many clips do you have. It seems like if you wanted to have a whole bunch of thumbnail clips you could just go through your clips on the timeline, click the save screenshot button, and put all those in one folder. From there you could bring those into photoshop and use a macro to convert them all to thumnails, or you could use the contact sheet macro.

I'd think you'd want to pick the best, or at least most representative, frames.

But maybe that's not the point.

Re: Thumbs from Video

Thank you this sounds promising. We have plenty of video footage and clips and have been doing the job manually before, but due to time constraints, we would like to do the job more efficiently. It is interesting for me to see that you are still suggesting clicking the screen shot button.

How does it work though that I capture every 10th or 100th frame with Scenalyzer? Is everything automatic? Will Scenalyzer export thumbnails from .wmf?

I took a look at the Scenalyzer website and this is what they say about Still Shots:

Easy STILLS EXPORT
With ScenalyzerLive you can quickly export stills in both, jpg or bmp format. This can be done either from live-pictures from your camera or frame-accurately from .avi files by simply pressing 'F2'. ScenalyzerLive also gives you the option to choose 3 possible resolutions with optional de-interlacing, cropping and with adjustable jpg compression factor.
It was probably never so easy to get high-quality pictures from your videos to quickly send them by e-mail or keep them for further reference on a CD-ROM.

This sounds to me like I still have to press the screen shot button??

Thank you again,
Martin

Re: Thumbs from Video

A few minutes on google turned up these possible solutions:

Within Vegas: Two scripts-- "Add Markers At Interval" and "Thumbnail At Markers". You can get both (plus other scripts) here (link)
-Just load up all your video files (or your finished edit) on the timeline, create markers at your desired interval with the first script. Then create thumbnails at each marker position.
-Nice for projects consisting of multiple video files.

Standalone program: Video2Photo (link)
-Works well, you can choose to capture a frame at any interval you want.
-Not as simple as Vegas solution if you have alot of separate video files as you've got to load each one to grab frames from them.

Re: Thumbs from Video

Thank you very much, this is very helpful :) :) :)

I like the second option quite a lot, as it is free:-) and seems to do exactly what we need.

I think and I am going to become a member on this forum, as it seems very professional

Thank you again,
Martin

By the way, I am only shooting with Sony TRV-60, so nothing too serious :-[.
