Thumbnails on the timeline?

Go to the Fast menu (little icon that looks like a hamburger in the lower left of the timeline.) Enable clip frames.

You need to stretch the video tracks vertically so they are tall enough to see the frame clips. This might not need to be done but you just hold ctr/command click and drag at the track label. (eg v1, v2. etc)

It's quite the ram eater. Much quicker to just click to see where ya are, in the long run.

It taxes your video memory first to draw all those frames. You might have 10g on the machine but only 1 gig on the video card.

If it works then Rock it. I am with Grinner. The redraw has always bothered me so I don't use them.

Yes, I have noticed those redraw issues even when I have 10GB of RAM. So, I must first have more machine RAM and then my video card will have to pack quite some more memory in it too, correct?

Your avid doesn't care how much ram you purchase. It'll use less than 2 gigs and stumble if you so much as leave AE open. You'll see huge performance differences with timeline icons, too many bins open, photoshop open in the background, ect.

So you're saying it does not matter if I have 10GB of RAM, because Avid will only use 2GB or less, if I run AE or Photoshop in the background, this will actually slow down Avid, correct? If that's true, then what's the point of having more RAM.

I thought it was limited to 3GB, hence the 3GB batch file located in the utilities folder of your Avid. Either way, it isnt using 10!

Okay, let me try to understand this. Let's say my system has 6GB of RAM and Avid only uses up to 3GB of RAM and the OS uses 1GB. That means two GB are left for AE and photoshop if I want to run them in the background. Now, if I run ProCoder in the background for rendering my QT Ref. file (and let's say ProCoder takes a gig), that means Avid now has two gig to work with, correct? However, if I come along and add another gig of RAM to my system so now it's 7 gig instead of 6 gig. Will now Avid now uses three again since it is now available?
