Three Strip Technicolor

One last item, I saw Hobo With a Shotgun yesterday which uses the 3-strip algorithm and it was interesting. Techincolor Canada actually worked on it, but it seemed to me the colors were a bit over the top. When they were using 3-strip they still tried to make it look natural and Hobo is just too candy colored. I think they needed to bring the saturation down a bit. Also the DOP was using colored lights all over the place and the beauty of the 3-strip is you don't have to do that. I suppose they were going for a Suspiria look, but I would have been a bit more subtle because you can get the same moods without going over the top. I realize the whole premis of Hobo is over the top, but it could have been easier on the eyes, too much color is just too much color.

BTW, sorry I was instructed by my EP to take down some of the Vimeo scenes I earlier put up. Here is a screengrab, obviously I did some masking and other work.

Sorry to revive this ancient thread but here is the Holy Grail I was after:
http://aescripts.com/ft-technicolor/

I ran across the FT-Technicolor scripts when this thread was active. But what has never been clear is how people determine they are 'getting the Technicolor' of yore...

I was referred to a museum in LA, to see if they have dye transfer prints, or the like, and available for viewing, since almost all other copies of films done in Technicolor (any type, 2/3 stripe, or later
processes...) have degraded and faded, and it is only the 'memory' of those who saw original Technicolor projections that often are the basis for 'what was Technicolor'...

I've not had the time to go up to LA to look into this further...

Agree. I'm 48 and I may never have seen original dye transfer prints. I'm just trying to duplicate colors of my memory which may never have existed lol.

Yeah its easier to separate stuff with light temp on set, you can change that blue to whatever colour you want.
