Three rookies has been named the funniest comedy of the year by
Atlanta's New's. A comedy about three down on their luck goons who by
some chance become police officers. And their captain doesn't like
them one bit.

The lighting leaves a lot to be desired. I'm no pro by any means, but the lack of good lighting makes it look very home videoish.

Voice over sounds awesome...dialog audio sounds muddy and distant. Is it temp audio? The composition of some of the shots could be tighter...lots of room above the actors heads, odd framing. I agree that lighting is distracting at times. That being said, named Atlanta's Best could mean there is more to it then the trailer...any links to the reviews?

Hey solo Good ear. That is temp audio. We are doing voice overs all week day and night. The lighting could have been better I agree. We shot the film in a grand total of about 20 hours. The sequel "Three Rookies Gone FBI" is scheduled to release in theatres this fall. We didn't have much of a budget for this one, but the next we have over 500k just for production.
I am very surprised how fast we got distribution for this movie.
People see it and love it. its funny all the way though.

Cool, this was abviously more about the content than the excution. I liked the content, and looks like it got you what you wanted out of it. A 500K deal for your next movie. Good job dude.

The voiceover was great. The lighting, DOF and location audio really mashed this one for me. But hell dude, you have 500K and I dont, so, props.

It's not just that he's got the 500k, he's also got the experience, and probably made mistakes he'll never ever make again. His next one will be at least 50% better despite the 500k :)

There's too many people afraid of making mistakes, it freezes them and they end up doing nothing as a result. Embrace the mistakes, laugh in the face of failure, or you'll never learn for either :)

It was about half HVX and Half XLH1 I must say that both cameras performed very well. I must say that the H1 is very hard to keep focus.
We used different cameras because we ordered 2 HVX's but
only 1 came in. The show had to go on.

It was my very 1st time ever touching a Canon.

What were you recording on? I'm guessing 4gb cards right? What did you offload them to when full? Thanks :)

Yeah we used P2's on the HVX and DV's on the H1.
Recorded at 1080i 24p
Capturing the footage from the H1 was a mess.
I'm still having nightmares.

Did you use the P2 store or Laptop with external HD? And how did you find offloading the P2 cards, did it get in the way or cause many problems on the shoot?

Sorry for all the questions but we're planning to do a similar shoot this Summer :)

Laptop with external HD. The P2 cards were actually pretty easy to work with.
The shots were pretty short, so having only 4g P2 cards worked fine.
When we got back to the office we just loaded the hard drive and got to work.

Cool, thanks for answering. I'm purchasing the HVX tomorrow, so I needed some reassurance

That would be me and thank you for your kind words. My name is Dan Nachtrab. I have been performing voice overs for over 16 years. If you would like, you can hear my demos and find out more information at www.dannachtrab.com.

AMEN TO THAT!! Give this man a BEER!!! I love that.. its SO TRUE!!

wow Dan, you are one talented individual! Haha, nice demo's! As for the film trailer...feels like it was cut in iMovie, with those cheesy titles at the end. Did you have a lighting setup? Most of it looks naturally lit.
