Three quick timelapse shots

Wow man, that looked really nice. The colors really popped out. I've been thinking about messing with my HVX to do some timelapse. Its just hard to get away from using the 20D.

Hey thanks Drew. I'm really glad you like them since I started looking into timelapse photography solely based off your reel. So that means a lot.

Do you think you could send me a private message as to where I could sell future footage? I'm looking to make a little bit of cash on the side while between music video projects and commercials.

PM sent and for the others reading this post I haven't found an outlet to sell my footage on. All of my sales are from people seeing my reel and then wanting to buy a clip or two or whatever. I do have my stuff for sale on TimelapseDigital.com but I haven't heard back from them since I signed up with them for a year. That year should be up here soon.

So all of my sales have been from me selling the footage. I do get offers from people that want to put the timelapse on their channel or on a DVD that they're selling. But I never go with any of them because the way all the contracts read kind of makes me feel as if I would have less control over my footage. I have a day job so I don't need the money from the timelapse. I would rather be able to do with it what I want to, instead of having to go through a lawyer to see if I could sell it to someone or use it in a project of mine or a friends.

Ya Drew. Non Exclusive is basically all the contracts you want to sign. People wanting to become owners of the footage or close to rather are being kind of insensitive. remember you are the one in control...

your footage always looks great by the way.

Oh and i was on uneasy silence and they linked to your footage once from a youtube source i believe, everyone loved it!

I was like, hey this is familiar, ive seen this before.

anyways, good job

Yeah that timelapse is really making the rounds. Last month my site got 229816 hits and over 300GB downloaded. Not bad for a word of mouth clip. I'm thinking about new ideas for clips and I'm going to start using my HVX in some of them. I have noticed that there's some noise from the cmos on the 20D when I look at it on my 42'' LCD. But I think I can get rid of it if I just incease the contrast a little.

The timelapse you've done Jay Ray looks really nice and makes me want to use my HVX for some of my timelapse. Its just another tool in the tool box.

non-exclusive still doesn't guarantee that your footage won't end up in other people's hands and who's to know when it does.. and where is the accountabliltiy. I think that Drew and Kevin have the right idea by selling it themselves. I've put up some clips on a few sites... never got any cash from any of them.. but they contacted me several times because they like the clips and want more... and for what? 50 bucks? 75 bucks, etc? I think I have to go back to the days when we sold 1 clip.. exclusively to 1 client and got a grand for that clip. Shoot, I sold one to the Maury Povich show and got 750... I think that selling yourself short by getting 50 bucks just stinks.. and there doesn't seem to be a lot of ethics involved in all of this once they get your stuff anyway.

I think it's best to develop your own site.. show ya wares and be responsible for your own footage. Same thing can apply to distribution of your projects where an outside vendor has little of your interests at heart. Happened to a friend in the music biz... Distributor told him they had sold 10k units, but in actuality sold 40K units and at 6 bucks a piece.. that's 240k he didn't get... Wow, you hardly ever hear about people screwing you in the film biz.... OHHH wait.

Congrats Drew!

Im new to DVX however i have been a visitor to read the post and get excited about owning a hvx, and iv seen drews work maybe 4 or 5 months ago and i would say the same as jeff your stuff rocks man.. i think you also had a clip with a guy and a rifle that was amazing to. your work with the 20d very inspiring!

Jeff, that was some great work! I'd love to see this thing in HD. That last shot (from the first posting) with the meteor cutting through the sky is gorgeous!

Could you share your settings? What time increments did you use? 1 sec, 2 sec per frame?

*EDIT - Is that just a regular jet airliner? I've been watching it a few more times and I'm thinking there is no way that's a meteor! hah!

Good Stuff! thats for sure! (DREW!) I feel kinda bad for Jeff Ray, Drew took the spot light for a minute! Kudos to Jeff too Really, I liked the sun rays shining through Ray!

Jeff,

Nice work with the timelapse! Do you mind sharing your settings? Were you using intervalometer or fps setting? Looks like you've experiment a little.

Hiya,

these timelapses look great !

Questions:
1. What settings did you use [F STOP, exposure, frame rates] Did you use the framehack at all?
2. Did you use a weight on your tripod base to keep it rock solid?

Thanks!

Here's another timelapse I did yesterday. I filmed this at the football field that was used in Wes Anderson's Rushmore (at the end when they're flying the kite).

Also, I'm actually only using 12 frames a second and speeding up in post since I don't have a SD card to do the framerate hack...so I'm kinda cheating.
