SHORT: "Three Guns" Short film

Some "detail" suggestion, critiques and other stuff :-p

- the intro is nice, it fits well with the music

- the first 3 shots...delete them... they don't give a lot of extra information. So just start at 1:08

- the first we see then is the suitcase, is this suitcase important ? Or just a suitcase ? If it's important, that shot is good...if it's not...it's not a necessary shot

- there's some sync problem... lipsync....

- I'm thinking, why not just start at 1:48 ?

- some foley could help also... the dialogues sounds ok, but the sounds of taking the suitcase (or briefcase) sounds more "roomy"

- between 5:01 and 5:03 there's a "hole" in the background sound (the hiss)....

- was this filmed on RED ? with the sound directly on camera ? Or did you use a H4N as recorder ?

- the phone rings to "close".... maybe lowering the level could help already (few db), some low cut EQ,

- use other sound effects for hitting and smashing.... this ones are to much "chinese low budget film sound effect"...
actually sounds of hits and smashes exists out of different layers.....
it also sounds to dry, to close...and little to loud... there are other ones for free which are more "fitting" with the movie.

- Always record ambience (roomtone) sounds of the places where you recorded... always.... Now there's some small "level up and down" in sound.... But when you level something down (like dialogue), you have to have something to fill in... otherwise you get "holes".

In general the sound is good.

Hi Dre,

this is very helpful, thanks for the feedback.

ah the sound... as important than the picture (and sometimes more important). I actually spent a lot of time working on the sound, especially dubbing everything (which I think I won't do again - too much work). I was thinking about putting folley everywhere but it's just another job.

I shot on 550D and I took ambience sound directly with the camera (next time will take a separate recorder). I recorded the dialogue separately (the whole stuff is ADR) and I've put some sounds gathered here and there on the net.

I actually tried to fill with a lot of sounds (cars, dogs barkings, streets...) and still not filled enough I guess.

Also I had some great difficulties balancing the sound (ie: the levels of the dialogue, ambience, music etc....), do you guys have a workflow to do that?

Thanks again, this is very helpful.

Well I thought already it was ADR.. But sometimes youtube, vimeo put stuff out of sync.. Or when you go from .mov to .avi, to other extensions forwards and backwards and changes samplerates and imagerates....

But the add of reverb here and there helps a lot. (it makes it more real.

Only for the part where that you guy is hit..and is "screaming" you can hear it was recorded in a room
