I have a three camera shoot (dvx100's) and want to know is there any way to timecode sync the cameras together?

Any ideas let me know.

Thanks,
John

Re: Three camera shoot, need sync.

The cheapest solution is to use a clapstick to refernce all three camera later in post.

After that, you can always record common LTC to each one of the DVX100 audio channels which can be decoded later in post.

There is no way to sync lock common timecode on the camaras as is.

Re: Three camera shoot, need sync.

I thought so, I have clapstick. Downside is no multicam on Xpress pro (no Mojo for 24p Advanced). Guess I will shoot 24p and make DVD from there.
Thanks,
John

Re: Three camera shoot, need sync.

No, the best way to sync mult. cams is to point them all at the flash of a camera and sync them in post with the light reference. Clapsticks are good, but you wont get the frame accuracy as the 1 frame flash.

Re: Three camera shoot, need sync.

Xpress Pro does have multicamera grouping. Choose sync point based on common clap and away you go. Ut may not play in real time, but the editing is still so much faster when all cameras stay synced to the same common edit point at any position.

Re: Three camera shoot, need sync.

I gleaned this tip from Tim Dashwood:

Setting up the AG-DVX100 for Multi-Cam Shoot
A Step-by-Step Guide

Tim Dashwood, DP & Post-Supervisor

SYNCHRONIZING CAMERAS

We’ll use the remote control to synchronize the cameras. Here’s the steps:

a) Set all of the cameras side by side and turn them on.
b) With one remote control, push “MENU”
c) Select “5. RECORDING SETUP” push the RIGHT arrow
d) Scroll down to “TC PRESET” and select.
e) Set the timecode to 01:00:00:00 or any other starting code.
f) Press MENU – then select “YES”
g) Press MENU twice to exit the setup.
h) The free running timecode should now be in sync across all of the cameras.
The TC will continue to free run even when the camera is shut off and the battery is removed.

Re: Three camera shoot, need sync.

now that is a simple fix!
Thanks!

I will have to llok at the avid for multicam. I couldn't find it in the book, so I figured it wasn't there.

I miss Dashwood's posts. He was one of the smartest, most valuable contributors I've found on any forum.

Re: Three camera shoot, need sync.

What we need is a brain trust collected and compiled for the DVX100/a. I'll bet if it was started here with categories laid out and contributers added to it in outline form (submitting to specific categories), we maybe could produce the most in-depth knowledge-base going on the DVX100/a.

Be pretty neat too.

Once fairly complete, Jarred (or his help ;D) could put it into a FAQ format, copyright it and run it on DVXuser.com. Might get a little more busy around here though, once word gets out that "DVXUser.com has all the answers" ;D.
