Thoughts on logo animation?

Hmm.. How would it look if we could see the pulses bounce on the left (so that they never left the screen)

Any Audio plans? I'll bet you could do some awsome Stereo and 5.1 effects.

Add a sound fx or music. it will help. Maybe you could have it move in Z very slowly, just a bit. You could also have a very slight reflection of light traveling across the logo, very slight, just a touch, and last you could have a hint of "traveling glow" on the edge of some of the letters.

Ooooh...those are some good touches.

I didn't think too much about sounds...I just buzzed through my Apple Loops from Soundtrack and didn't find anything inspiring. Thanks for the comments!

Anybody have a preference for which speed?

That's very tasty.

I think the speed on the third version worked best.

I think Mikko's right; add stereo sfx to enhance the image, and you're golden.

Overall, it's a nice concept...clean and to the point. It's nice because too many vid prod really go afoul when it comes to animated opens and their logos. From a design point of view, here is my critique.

Add some easing on those keyframes, the animation is too linear and rigid. Smooth it out to get a nice natural animation.

The echoes, I would maybe play with them some more, sound waves decrease in magnitude over distance...I would try to show this, only if slightly by varying the size of your actual echoes that are moving.

Lastly, what is the significance of the echo in relation to your business? You want the motion to convey something, otherwise one can look at a still frame and get the same thing.

I really like where you're going, you're already one ahead of the game by having a good concept with clean design. Typography works well in context, just a little polishing and you have something you can build a nice brand with. The site is nice too.

PS - oh, and thanks for the DVD :)

Very nice and professional. The various speeds didn't seem to make a difference. Either one will work.

I would suggest making the 3 white echo elements light up as they appear. Just add a one second glow to them.

Good luck!

Dwight Schrute says:

"Michael always says K.I.S.S.: Keep it simple, stupid. Great advice, hurts my feelings every time."

Looks good.

P.S. WATCH THE OFFICE CHRISTMAS EPISODE TOMORROW NBC.

I agree that it's a pretty solid concept, but also agree with most of oneinfiniteloop's suggestions. Particularly:

It needs more easing and bounce, yes. Echoes are a natural phenomenon, and they should have a more natural motion.

Also, echoes expand as they move. That's really what this lacks. The blue return pulses should expand vertically and decrease in strength as they move.

Very excellent feedback...thank you to everyone.

I'm guessing I can soften the keyframes by doing it in Motion...yes? So far it's just a 4-layer PSD that I goofed with in FCP. I REALLY like the idea of the echoes expanding as they travel!

I-Loop...glad you finally got that DVD...now you see how fast I work, eh?

I totally forgot about it then it just arrived...still haven't got around to watching it yet, but I need to see it on the TV rather than on a comp monitor.

Anyhow, do you have access to AE? PM me with the font you're using and I'll see if I can toss something together. You have better options with Motion as well...

Dude, check out the DVD when you get a chance...it's got a couple special features on it. And don't be surprised if I hit you up for a couple more SFX shots for another short.

I've got AE 4.5, but it don't like to work in OS 10.4...and I still haven't even opened Motion yet. I can e-mail you my logo later...it's just a 50% tall Gill Sans font, I'm pretty sure. Thanks again all!

Nice. How about a sonar ping for audio?

When my wife suggested that, I laughed at her. Funny how these things sound like better ideas when your spouse isn't the one that suggests it. I should listen to her more often.

I was about to suggest the sonar ping too - really lo-fidelity would be cool, specifically if the sound preceeds somewhat the graphic, almost like hunting for a sub cold-war style, then your logo is there.
