I'm looking at getting a few mics to replace my Sennheisers that came with my g2's. What are you thoughts on these mics? How do they compare to say the Sanken equivalent?
Sanken equivalent? What's the Sanken equivalent? The Countryman B6 and the Sanken COS11 are both fantastic mics, but are very different mics. What's your primary use? Do you bury your mics in clothing? Is it for seated interviews, or dialog for narratives?
COS11, yes. Sorry I was just being lazy and didn't feel like looking up the product Name. My primary use is for interviews, both seated and moving as well as some dialog for narratives. I try to bury them in clothing when possible provided it doesn't cause too much unwanted noise, but a lot of the interviews it's possible to be over top of clothing.
I have not used a B6 in the field so take that into account, but I have held one in my hand and given it a quick listen. I can't comment much on the sound besides that it was fine, but it's an extremely small lav and therefore also has a higher noise floor then most. My impression is that it's a good weapon to have when normal techniques isn't working and you need to be creative, but I would test it before using it for my specific use to see if the noise isn't too high.
my 2 lavs of use are the b6 and cos11. which one do i use most? just depends… both are great mics. i find less cable noise with the b6 but i think the cos11 sounds better. i also agree with the above comment about noise floor. a b6 bonus, its water resistant. its also really friendly for letting poke out behind a button of a shirt.
