FEATURE: Those Who Go To Hell (Martial Arts Film Noir Feature)

Hey everyone, I know I tend to post shorts that are less "acting" based, and much more fight based (for obvious reasons), haha. But actually, after a long thought process of what to do, I've decided to release my first feature film online, as a workprint (meaning it is an incomplete film), in 4 episodic parts. To keep a long story short, back in 2007, before I became a professional stuntman, I wanted to make a feature on practically no budget, because well I saw my friends did it for about $5000, and I wanted to follow in their similar footsteps. A genre I wanted to tackle was film noir, so I set out and wrote a script in 4 parts (the film was never to be distributed or sold, only online) and started shooting in November of 2007. I shot for about 3 years straight, and almost got the movie done (about 85% of it) but in the end, with no real budget, no one getting paid, and people just helping out when they could, the movie was eventually scrapped as my team and I started working on union films.

After a 2 year hiatus into the present, I discussed everything with my team and the supporting actors, and it was decided to edit and piece together the film as close to the original scripts as possible, and release it online for everyone to see. Of course, this means that the film is more or less a giant rough cut, as there completely missing scenes, or incomplete edits because of the unfinished footage. Also, because I was young, silly, and crazy, I didn't really use any equipment at all in terms of sound or lighting, as I wanted the film noir to be as dark and gritty looking as possible (for some weird purists sake, haha).

That being said, this has been my pet project for a while, so just wanted to share and see what people thought of it. By all means, be as honest as you'd like, and keep in mind as I continue to post all 4 episodes, that the footage was mostly shot in 2007 - 2008, and the film is completely shot on a Panasonic DVX 100B. I merely up-scaled the footage to 480p for the "HD" effect, haha.

The first two episodes will be released this month.

The third episode will be released in Feb.

The fourth and final episode will be released in March/April (depending on how busy I get)

SYNOPSIS

Daniel Vicente (Shawn Bernal) is Chicago's most feared hit man whose life has been disciplined by an assassin's creed of solitude and tradition. Serving as the right hand man of Patrick Keller (Chad Sheveland), the second most powerful crime lord in Chicago, Daniel has assisted Patrick into the power and status that he holds. However, when an unexpected double cross occurs during the assassination of a well-known council leader, Daniel finds himself the prime target of the fearsome Madame Lo (Allison Carvalho), leader of the triads. After finding out that Patrick approved the hit on him, Daniel is left stunned and angered. Confused, betrayed, and left with no explanation, Daniel must confront old friends and past demons, while questioning his own creed to find out who he can trust, why he was double crossed, and to ultimately find the reason of his existence.

Thank you for watching! :)

You should let it play at 16:9. The squeeze doesn't look all that great. The movie itself was pretty good, Shawn does awesome action work. And congrats and all that's been happening with you guys. I like the camera work on this too. What did you shoot on?

@Nate

Thanks for the kind words!

As for shooting, we shot this completely on a Panasonic DVX 100B, and as for the "squeeze" thing you mentioned, I'm assuming you mean the bars? It's an old aesthetic choice, and while it's not everyone's cup of tea, it's an old choice I just decided to stick with. If you don't prefer it, all good, thank you for watching either way. :)
