this was probably stupid...

i was testing out some mics on my DVX, and i plugged in a studio quality, capacitor mic. you know, like they use to record vocals in a nice studio. anyways, I had my headphones in and i was flipping the switches to try and work this mic, and i hear some feedback, and then dead silence. Did I fry my preamp?

I can still pick up some audio from the onboard mic, but it's only about 5 bars loud/quiet.

i'm really scared I jacked up my camera, any help would be appreciated.

ok update,
i fixed the problem with it actually recording audio
but my new problem is my headphones won't work in the camera.
i tried them on my computer and they worked fine..so something's wrong with my headphone jack. i have no idea what to do about this.

Thera are two things notoriously bad about DVX cameras: the firewire port and the headphones jack. Most probably you fried the output. Knowing most of the people in business fixing thsi kind of problem, most likely you'll be hit with a full VTR board replacement (that's where the headphones amp lives) and it's not gonna be cheap.

Sorry if this is stupid, but have you checked the output volume of the headphone jack (Audio Monitor switches on top of the camera)? For some reason, sometimes they seem to reset to the lowest setting. Nearly caused me a heartattack once.
