As I do more and more productions I'm starting to have to deal with more people "outside" of my edit bay. Having to move media and export audio and create EDL's and so on. The more I have to do this the more little gotcha's I run into. It amazes me but this is still the wild west or uncharted territoy for the mainstream. P2 is great and I've embraced it but I feel like Marco Polo or Christopher Colombus sometimes.
Exporting audio out to programs like pro tools (from avid in this case) traditionally has worked flawless but with P2 involved I've run into problems with audio files that span over 2 cards not exporting correctly.
Conforming the audio mix to new video edits requires EDL's and in my case Virtual Katy which can be a little tweaky but it works great. With P2 since there's not a tape associated to a "clip" there's a few gotch's to try to overcome.
I think we're about 2 years away from this P2 workflow gaining enough mainstream traction to really force the media companies like Apple, Avid, Digidesign and others to "help" come up with solutions for this new way of working. Until then, how do you all make it from start to delivery here inthe wild west?
Sorry if this sounds like a rant!
