this is considered comedy?

I saw the humour in it in the same way I guess that I see the humour in Sponge Bob. I think it's childish, but if that's the target audience, then it works on that level and I suppose is legit. But no, it didn't do anything for me.

perhaps my initial assessment was too harsh. at least he is putting himself out there, something i'm not doing. maybe it's time i start making some vids for youtube.

Not genius or "smart" by any means, but for whatever reason young people are much more amused by super-stupid humor than older people, and often times more amused by it than they are by smart humor.

first of all, i think you're probably wrong about this :) I mean Benny Hill was a hit and I'm not sure that show was known for it's wit.

And back to this kid: he, all on his own, developed this character who he's featured in a series of videos on youtube. He's come up with the context of each situation, he made the choice to speed up the audio, he "writes", shoots, edits the whole thing himself. It's a pretty "whole" concept. It's also interesting to watch the first few videos and see how his idea and this character has developed, he also looks a lot younger in the first ones.

Also, and I'm not being pretentious here, but there is obviously a substantial satirical element to what he's doing.

It may not be Shakespeare, but i don't think it's as "dumb" as many of you probably think.

Also, i thought it was interested that South Park was brought which although I don't watch it anymore, won Emmy's in both 2005 and 2007, and has also won a Peabody award which is generally considered the most prestigious honor awarded in broadcasting.

Yasser Arafat was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.

Winning prizes doesn't mean a lot to me, any more.

Arafat was awarded the prize the year after the Oslo Accords, as was Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Hindsight' 20/20 but at the time it was a huge step toward peace in the middle east and I'm sure Nobel wanted to be as supportive as possible.

Sry, off topic

I think that some people will find certain things funny, regardless of age or any other factor. That being said, these factors should definitly be taken into consideration (look at cartoons or adult comedies) but even still, this (to me at least) seems a bit ridiculous.

As far as the internet being the "bottom rung" I am not sure. I would wager it depends on what you are doing on the internet. Some studies indicate that when watching TV, brain activity severly dwindles. This is because TV is basically "boredom killing" and when we watch we don't really think much. But on the internet, when I am on here for example, I am thinking a lot. Maybe I interpreted this the wrong way, but I think everyone has their own tastes and I can't criticize.

Some would laugh if I got run over by a car...I certainly wouldn't, but that's just my opinion.

Don't turn your back on your sensibilities... that is antithesis of comedy.

Just walk away man... walk the hell away... I'm willing to bet that half of his views came from 9-13 year olds... and the other half came from people like you posting links asking "do you believe this sh*t?"

Although I didn't laugh at all, the kid does have some talent. The video was fairly well made (not counting the lighting) and was put together much better than a lot of stuff on YouTube.

Also, let me clarify that I feel bad defending this guy, the videos are not brilliant and for the most part not very funny. but he is communicating a fairly developed concept: parodying other self aggrandizing youtube blogs, his abusive mother and nonexistent father, his stunted state and sociopathic behavior, his lack of friends and unhealthy relationship with his camera, even in this episode the idea of how after he takes his meds his behavior doesn't change is an interesting statement from a kid growing up of a generation of over prescribed Ritalin.

I'm not saying it's good, or that you should like it, I don't either, but I think after you acknowledge you don't like it, really look at what he's done. I think while not very successful, it shows he has a lot of potential for something interesting and rather insightful.
