I shot for a client this past week. Ive worked with him before on a big project.

Anyways, this shoot went good. Until I came home to log and capture.

Tape 2, the tape just went nuts. It looked as though the heads were dirty, yet Ive checked tape 1 and 3, it looks great. Is there such a thing as bad tapes being sold?, this isnt the first time either.
With PQ and MQ tapes, I expect a lot more quality control than this.

Im just going nuts here, this aint no personal project where I can call up my friends for a reshoot. So yeah, answers are welcome.

I've had tapes do bonkers while capturing...thick horizontal lines across the image, giant blocks...

But rewinding and restarting the capture has always fixed the problem.

As to a bad tape...maybe...but one continuously bad? I could see a thin spot or something, but not a completely bad tape. Unless the casing is defective and the alignment goes off.

Try playing it on another machine, sometimes it will work.

And yes, occasionally there can be a bad tape. Not often though. If this has happened before, have your heads cleaned.

I had a bad one once as well...more dropout than you can even imagine. We had to pay the actor and actress for a whole additional day...it was a nightmare.

Im capturing it from the DVX right now. Not a good idea, believe me Im guilty as charged.

Most of the clips are 10-15 sec long. Im capturing about 3 per time. Would that be the best way to keep my baby in tip top shape?
