Thinking of putting microphone(s) on the kids this year for Halloween

I need help - I shoot video with the Canon 70D and would love to get better audio for when the kids walk up to the door and do "trick or treat".

Right now I use either on-board audio or a shock mounted Zoom H1 with a deadcat on it.

I have no lavaliers or anything else - what's the cheapest way with decent sound I could mic the kids up this year? Any ideas? If the solution helps thwart wind noise that'd be great too.
Something that wouldn't be uncomfortable for a 4 and 7 year old to wear for about an hour.

Thanks so much!

Shawn

Rig the H1 into their costume somehow.

I've got 3 grandkids, 6-4-2yrs and I wouldn't lav them, too distracting and they're likely to get damaged.

Maybe get an assistant who smiles broadly, with a handheld shotgun with a covering windmuff, so it doesn't solicit a 999 call.
The kids will be loud enough with their Trick or Treat, imo what you want to hear is the householder answering.
Or carry your H1.

Cheers.

I decided to drill a small hole in their candy gathering pumpkin and mounted the H1 (in a shock mount with deadcat) below it. I think this will work out fine, and will be 1000 times better for ambient sound + no wind.

These are some ambitious home movies. Be sure to enjoy the moments in front of you and not just your LCD screen! Cheers.

Sounds good. For the height, get the 7yr old to hold their pumpkin, and aim the mic upwards to point at the talent.

Test it out, set a good recording level and make sure you can hear them too. Slate each house by slamming their front gate :)

Cheers.

Oh man. Umm, perhaps you have been spending a little bit too much time in DVX land lately?
Not that there is anything wrong with that. Mind you.
That said, we are now at post 9, and up to this pont no one has thought this might be a little bit strange!
:D
Mom, dad's trying to mic me up with a lav and an H1, again!
