Thinking of purchasing a7sii

Any opinions on purchasing the a7sii to replace my hvx200 and 5dmk2. Will be mainly used for real estate photography but will still shoot video occasionally. A friend of my owns one and I think I fell in love.

If you're used to the work-arounds of the 5DmkII, the A7sII should be an enjoyable camera for you. The viewfinder is a nice addition that mirrorless allows, but most of the other shortcomings of DSLR's are still there - poor ergonomics, handheld micro-jitters, poor audio, short battery life etc.

You will get a huge jump in IQ though - even at 1080p.

Depending on your style of video shooting, you may want to hang onto your EF mount lenses to use with an adapter - the Sony lenses are focus-by-wire and can be very difficult to manually focus with - the exception being the 28-135 which is designed with video in mind. If you're just shooting real estate with lots of wide angle static shots you might find the Sony lenses bearable though.

Its still the best mirrorless cam on the market, fantastic DR and Image. No internal NDs are a pain but you should be used to it with the 5D3. If you like primes, try out the Loxia lenses, they are incredible

Thanks guys! always appreciate advice this community provides. I've had my 2 cameras for ages and purchased them knowing that they would hang with the times.(i don't buy cameras often) With all the new gyro gizmo popularity, stabilizing has become more affordable. thats why I feel like this sony will meet future standards for my needs. is it a durable piece of equipment? It feels real nice! How's it do in extreme weather snow/rain. I'm used to the invincible Hvx. Do you think this camera will be on sale lately I haven't followed the camera trend in awhile.

I don't think it is weather sealed however ive used to briefly in the rain without consequence. I will say that the paint chips very easily if resell value matters to you, I like to put gaffs tape around the evf box

For ergonomic issues grab the Tilta Cage w/the wooden handle. Absolute lifesaver and it is rather sexy too.

I totally agree - anything SmallRig is worth considering. I have a few hundred dollars worth of SR stuff and every piece is as sturdy as the day I got it. Great quality and great customer service. Not as sexy but definitely easier on the wallet :) PLUS, I think SmallRig might have wooden handle grips now too.
