GH2 Thinking of purchasing a GH2

Hey, guys,

It's been a while since I've even thought or looked at replacing my 7D with a GH2 (due to money - yay life!) but I just finished a side job that paid more than I was expecting it to, so I'm thinking of switching again.

Two questions for those kind enough to answer:

1. Is the "blue banding" issue that was shown earlier at high ISOs still present?

2. Is the GH2 hack safe and reliable? (I've never hacked a camera before, so it would be new territory.) And as a subquestion, is it worth it? Have you seen much of a difference in footage between the hack and the standard? I suppose another subquestion is, if I bought a GH2 now, would the hack work, or has Panasonic since released firmware that has blocked it off?

1. Never saw any blue banding on my GH2.
2. Hack will not brick your camera. Worst it will not record with the settings you put in and you would just revert to the standard settings or another stable setting. Would have some work finding out which hack you want to put. (really high and quite unstable or lower an functional, run some tests, a lot of them) The stock quality is already amazing, but you can still see some defects due to the encoder. The hack will let you color correct deeper and remove the mud and other artifacts.
3. Hack will work with any GH2 camera old or new. The thread about new cameras blocking the hack is a mistake and actually works fine.

Also know it is moire-free to a certain point. Meaning that in situations where canons will be looking like rainbows, your GH2 will be fine. But in certain situations (extremely rare though) you may get a slight distortion with much less rainbow effect.

Yeah, no sub $6,000 solution will be perfect, but 42mbs recording with virtually no moire problems is a pretty exciting prospect. Glad they got it hacked!
 
Now is the best time to buy.

Big price drop on the Gh2 plus lens. Wish I waited just a month.

If I were you I'd call B and H right now...

I checked B and H again after reading your post. They cranked the price (with kit lens) back to $999.00.

I saw the "GH2 price drop" post in this forum and indeed I saw the Gh2 listed for $750.00.

Not sure what's going on....
 
Prices at BH have a part automatic and out of control of the people there, so weird things happen.

sorry to hijack this thread, but I can´t seem to find the answer to my questions anywhere else, or at least not satisfactionally clear ones.
So please don´t mind me asking, but as happy GH13 user I´ve just now put my eye on maybe purchasing a GH2.

1. There´s only one ptool which works on both GH1 and GH2, right (with different firmwares, of course)?

2. Are there differences in what can be hacked and what can´t? If yes, do I have to know of them or are they maybe greyed-out in ptool if not applicable?

3. Will changing the menu language and NTSC<->PAL work on GH2? (Got a friend in Japan...)

I'm holding off until there's positive news about the new 25p firmware. If that works, then the 60D is going..
