FS7: Thinking about purchasing an FS7 for an upcoming project

I, too, had my doubts about the Tilta plate because it "hung in the air" but I bought it as I needed a quick backup v-mount power option.

I'm more than happy with the results and as for whether it can hold a battery or two easy enough, how about 5???

There is zero flex on the mount with 5 batts. In fact everything else moves except the mount, it's solid.

I was going to suggest it's probably strong enough to support the entire camera, but Neill has illustrated it in a far more entertaining way :-)

Ben.

For what it's worth, the XDCA-FS7 unit not only mounts with the top screw holes, but is form shaped to rest against the contour of the back of the camera, and, on top of that, has a protrusion that fits snugly into the battery compartment of the camera. All combined, it's very effective.

Ben, does the plate contact the camera at the lower end of the unit for stability, or does is just hang out there in mid-air as I've seen in the photos? If so, don't you get any bounce during handheld when there is a heavy battery attached?

There is no contact at the lower end. However, the upper end does rest on the back of the camera AND the mount is a solid block of metal about 3/4" thick that has grooves in it to lighten it a bit. You can see it all in this picture with the Tilta/Ikan rig, carbon fiber mattebox and Shape handle.

I was surprised how good FS7 batteries (BP-U) are. And they charge so fast that when one is getting empty second is waiting for you charged.

Took a chance with thos Kayo Maxtar V-mounts. So far so good. It charges in 3 hours flat. I haven't had a chance to test it while recording non-stop but leaving the camera on and playing with it on and off, it seemed to last over 6 hours with just drawing from the camera. I'll try to post a more accurate number as I get more experience but I also plan on powering my Mix Pre-D using at the same time.
