GH2 Thinking about buying a GH2 with 2 lenses, some advice?

I come from shooting on video cameras as well as dslr (canon 7d) After recently doing some research I would like to get a GH2 as I will be selling my old dvx-100 and my 7d. What are the thoughts on getting this

1) Black Gh2 (with Hack)
2) Olympus f/1.8 45mm lens
3) ????

I need an average view lens to wide. On my 7d I loved using an 85mm, 50mm and 28mm. For some establishing shots I did use the Tokina 11-16mm lens, but overall I don't think I use extreme wides that much. Also does this camera have a zoom/crop function like the t3i? Just really looking for some help here after looking online and finding out this is a good place to start.

There's not much to discuss that hasn't been already. After using the gh2, you will soon realize how soft the canons are. There is a crop mode. The tokina is a great lens for this cam as it's m4/3rds. the olympus is nice, although I have never used personally. get it, dont look back.

Thank you and sorry if I posted something that already had been? I will do some more reading. I just seen a video of a user here using a sigma 30mm and it looked beautiful, I might want something wider though like 18-24mm. Also I seen this camera is smaller so I was thinking about buying this cage for it, any thought?

or this one looks better

No worries man, no reason to be sorry here, you have valid questions. Check out the gh2 stickies, there's lots of great info. And WELCOME, by the way:)

That cage is a good price, looks well built. But there is one thats made for the gh2 (cant remember who makes it) But the one i'm thinking about has a custom slot to remove the battery and cards with out needing to take off the cam. Not sure if the opteka one does. Also the new Flow motion patch is straight up sick. It's the best one I have tried. It handles everything I can throw at it, and then some. SOLID AS A ROCK!

The oly 45mm 1.8 is a great lens , fast focus and sharp wide open, but I use the panny 20mm 1.7 most of the time.

Some sort of nice zoom is not a bad idea- maybe one of the Canon L series or EF zooms?

After reading most of the threads here and on Personal View, I went all prime with the Lumix 14mm f/2.5, Leica 25mm f/1.4 and the Olympus 45mm f/1.8. The trio covers virtually all of my shooting needs.

I forgot to mention that I have a Nikkor 28mm f/2.8 which is one of my favorite lenses, so I have that focal length covered. For some reason I thgouht I could not adapt that lens to my Gh2 (going to buy real soon) So All I need now is possibly something wider or like NoahK mention a zoom for now.

Can anyone comment how the zoom lens kit is (14-42mm)? If it is not that good what would be the nest step up? Also thank you everyone for the help and hope to contribute to these forums.

Only two lenses? Tough call...

I'd pick the Panasonic 12-35/2.8 and Voigtlander 17.5 or 25 (maybe PL 25/1.4 if I had a lower budget). In a pinch I can get away with using a sharp, fast, wide lens in ETC mode for portraits and tele work.

For your translation purposes (roughly)... if you liked using 28, 50, and 90 on the 7D, you'll get similar field of view from approximately 20mm, 40mm, and 75mm on m43 cameras. Voigtlander happens to make freaking GREAT Leica-M mount lenses in some of these lengths if you're feeling all-manual.

It is quite a bit better than most give it credit for. Not a real good low light lens, but it does what most "kit" lenses for the popular brands do, covers a range from "workhorse" wide angle (28mm full frame equivalent) to a fair portrait perspective tele (about 84mm equiv) and in reasonable lighting levels produces a decent image especially in the hands of one who knows what he's doing.

The GH2 with 14-42 often goes for about the same as body only price, mine (on special) was actually about $30 less than body only. It'll "get you by".

In addition I also second the advice on the 14mm f2.5 Lumix prime, the 20mm Lumix f1.7 (or the 25mm Leica DG Summilux f1.4), and the 45mm f1.8. I have all of them and can attest to the image quality they all produce. You don't have to acquire them all at once, I went about it in a steady systematic way.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot Bruce and everyone, I'm going to be doing some research but if anyone can still help me it would be great. Also I want to look into using anamorphic lenses or adapters

i would recommend Nikkor ai - ais lenses (most ai lenses got all you need and ais wont give you much more but cost 3 to 4 times more) you say you got the 28mm 2.8 thats basically one of the best 28mm EVER made. Then you could get a super cheap nikkor 50 ai/s but dont get the 1.2 or 1.4 because they are not really sharp and at 1.8 they both are nowhere near as sharp as the 50 1.8 and for your wide stuff tokina 11-16 is the best there is and at constant 2.8 (so great, doclos rehouses them into cine-grade housings and resells them for 3k $ ;) )
and I just got a super cheap nikon F to m43 adapter from china. Fits like a glove and the best part? Cost only 15$ :) including shipping worldwide :) bought one to try it out and will get one for every lens I have for easy swapping ;)

and no need to mention that those ai/s lenses are super awesome manual focus lenses (long focus throw and super smooth :) ) the 50 1.8 can be had for 100-150 $ and the tokina around 600

if you do got the money then go 17,5 f/0.95 25 f/0.95 and 50/0.95 noktons and stuff they each are around 1000$ -1200$ though

I have the Nikkor 28mm as well as the 50mm 1.8. Love those lenses. Wondering though how is the nikkor 24mm?

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/24f28.htm

since they are so close to eachother , wouldnt go 24 cuz 28 got zero distortion where as 24 starts to look "fisheye-y" i guess ;)
Exactly, I guess I was just thinking since I have a Sigma 28mm and a Nikkor I might sell both and get the 24mm if it was better/faster? I would love the Nokton 25mm, but at $1200 I would need to sell both of these lenses & still have to come up with like $500......

Thanks for the help everyone
