Thing about not switching Tapes?

I just got my DVX and was looking through the website and saw that its not a good idea to use different tapes. Is this true? So then it would not be a good idea to go to SAMS CLUB and buy a pack of MAXELL DV tapes in bulk? Would be a good idea to just order panasonic tapes online?

-Thanks

Re: Thing about not switching Tapes?

I used to use Maxell tapes in my old camera Panasonic DV-953, but that camera was disposable compared to my DVX. The way I see it, when you have $3200+ invested in a serious piece of equipment you should have a nice case and use quality tapes. Are you shooting hours of tape a day? I'm willing to spend a dollar or two more each for the insurance MQ tape affords. I think most people feel that way too. A DVX is too a beautiful a thing to leave to chance.

Oh yeah, I think Skiing is LIFE too! Snow Skiing that is.

Re: Thing about not switching Tapes?

Just stick to one brand. Some guys say that the best tape is the DVCAM tape, which is less prone to dropouts. But then again, there are loads of guys that have shot loads of hours with the MQ tapes and they didn't have any droupouts. I personally use MQ's. And I think the majority of the guys in this forum too.

The rule of thumb is don't mix different tape brands. Just stick to one brand.

If you start using DVCAM (or any other Sony tapes), then stick to those. Otherwise, just use the recommended ones: Panasonic AY-DVM63MQ or AY-DVM63PQ.

All the best

Fidel.
