Thin XLR cable?

Hey guys, I got my rode ntg2 kit in the mail today, everything is really nice so far.

But one problem I am having is that with the rode boompole it has the option for you to internally cable it yourself. So I tried to, but the XLR connectors are too fat to fit through one of the holes, also the XLR cable itself is pretty thick.

So my question is is. I have seen on the blimps that they use really thin XLR cables, where could I get one that has a thin cable and hopefully a thin connector too?

You won't find it. You can get thinner cable, but the need of physical size on an XLR connection makes it impossible to make it smaller. Internally wiring cable in a fish pole requires removing a connector, running the cable, and re-soldering the connector. That, and most internally-wired cable is coiled so that it flexes and collapses with the pole.

To be honest, maintaining internal cable on a boom is a pain. If something goes wrong, you have to remove a connector and the cable in order to fix it. External cable is easily removed/replaced if something goes wrong.

Well I just ordered the K-Tek coiled cable which works on booms for 4'-18'. And the RODE boom is nice because it does have an entry and exit hole, I will just have to take off the connector I suppose, but I have an audio guy that works at a church who can help me with that.

You might have to take off the little rubber gasket and push down the tab on the connector. Or try feeing the cable through the other way.

Ok I will do that for now, in the meantime I did order a coiled cable which should work fine, and I know a guy who can help me solder it
