There's Ripple in my Video + my captured video looks like crap

I am worried. I am shooting and then importing using Firewire into Avid Composer but what I see on my LCD does not look like what does into Avid. It is very constrasty and looks horribly like bad vhs. Also, when I load in high res pics, they also loose their sharpness.

Is there a setting I do not know about. I have the latest composer. Firewire 400 cable.

When I digitize it to Sony, I do not have the sharpness issue but I do get an interlacing issue which causes my video to get " ripples" no matter which program I place it into.

**I would post something to show but I do not know how to post video to the forum.

oh dear! please help. I even tried to export a qt and then re export for AE. I rendered the lower field and the video rippled. I rendered the upper field and the video still had that weird effect. ..arrrggghh.

It got worse when I placed it to a DVD using SONY DVD. The ripples were horrific.

Any suggestions wise people of the forum.

In the bottom left of your timeline in Avid, there is a video quality button. It has three settings. Green/Green, Green/Yellow, and Yellow/Yellow. Yellow/Yellow is the lowest setting. Make sure you are on at least Green/Yellow.

As for high res pics, Avid is going to resize them to video resolution on import. I usually use imported pictures for placeholders, and use Avid Pan and Zoom for the actual image.

Check out your video quality setting, and come back. Then we will work on your images.

So the quality setting is Green/Green, or Green/Yellow?

What resolution are you capturing at?

What are you shooting with?

What resolution are you shooting at?

I have the resolution on Green Green.
The resolution I assume is DV. I am shooting from the HVX200.
Is there a way that you can change the resolution you are capturing?
