There's a rat on my toilet!

Re: There's a rat on my toilet!

Ah! But, what's the bigger offense? Me not knocking or he not locking the door?

Even at 24 seconds, this little video is rife with social commentary.

Re: There's a rat on my toilet!

ah hah.... BUT, is it truly social commentary?  Social commentary, by definition, comments on what is normal in society, whether good, bad, or indifferent.  Does this film accurately portray the social norm of bathroom door knocking/locking habits, or merely display an example of poor bathroom etiquette, by either or both of the characters?

Considering the scope of this film is quite limited, being only 24 seconds in length, it is impossible to say whether what is portrayed is normal or not, in context with the film itself.  Commentary IS provided by the "rat" (actually a racoon?) that does seem to put the burden of wrong-doing on the unseen figure which opens the door, but since there is no return dialogue, it is impossible to determine whether this is simply the rat's opinion, or common social expectation.

The social norm for bathroom etiquette is that if you wish privacy, you close the door, and if you are concerned about accidental intrusion, you lock the door.  (If anyone knows of a culture in which leaving the bathroom door wide open while occupying the facility is the norm, uh....   let me know, so that I may never visit there!)  So......

Re: There's a rat on my toilet!

Seeing as this is a story about a talking raccoon (rat in the title being a woefully bad joke), NORMAL society does not enter into it. Thusly, any happenings pertained in said video could be construed as normal by it's own laws. However, since these laws are not contained within the 24 second run-time, it is the duty of the viewer to suspend belief and take the events which occur as "normal". And so, by coming to terms with the preceding outline, one can view the said video as a social commentary in a fantasical world.

By the way, there was return dialogue. It's just silent. Made clear through the use of a shaking camera due to the incredulity of finding a raccoon on his toilet reading "The Far Side".

Did you say "Thusly"?? ;D

I like the accent! I noticed your lighting, good job. I liked it.

That site rules. I especially like the feature on "How to hang toilet paper" and the thread: Tall Ass Urinals

This raccoon is now my prop actor for whenever my friends are busy. Below was lit with one household lamp and my recessed lighting (on dimmers):

You know, of all subjects i've seen tests on... that raccoon is probably *the* best subject i've ever seen...

Not only is it funny, but it's honestly a great way to judge value, texture, shape, costrast... lol... whoda thunk it?
