Thee Phantom - MC/Producer from Philadelphia

"Thee Phantom" is a 4 minute feature I produced of a MC/Producer in Philadelphia who specializes in combining hip hop music with live orchestration and has performed with classicaly trained musicians. The name came from his love of The Phantom of the Opera.

Just trying to get some feedback on this thing. I may choose a larger or different font to use in the open. Everything was shot 24P normal. I have seen a lot of work posted on here where all the images look crystal clear and colors "pop" after compression. Not sure if there was a certain setting in the camera or something done in post to achieve the look. I did use lights on my shoot. After uploading to the web it looks like it lost a lot of its color. Any suggestions on how to keep the images bright and lively throughout the compression process? A shorter version of this project without the graphics and credits is slated to air locally at the TV station I work for in Philly.

Are all of your posts negative or just the last few that I've read?

ah

ah

My only comment is that the editing style and intro i saw (with the purple background) looked very corporate. I dont know if this was intentional or not, but i'd stray away from it. I would see it more as a documentary. For example also effects like the fake in-camera graphic, and the black&white with splotches of color. Not needed and makes not sense withhin the context. But i like that artist. Cool stuff!

Well it is sort of like a documentary because he is telling his own story so to speak. It wasn't intended to be a music video. Fake in camera graphic? Not sure what you meant by that unless your referring to the viewfinder matte I used in FCP. The B&W with spotches of color I thought was a cool effect. Its all about creativity and everything doesn't have to be a certain way all the time. I got the idea from a Steven Speilberg flick. I see features all the time on MTV that have clips that are B/W or have funky transitions etc...but thank you for your comments.

I thought it was good. Kept my attention the whole time. Yeah the intro was corporationish, but you did have some good editing and and shot selection. Good job.

I'm not saying "dont be creative" but in the context and style of thie particular piece, some of the effects weren't neccessary or beneficial to what you were trying to capture. Like how does the Viewfinder matte better the piece? Just seems like you are putting those effects in because you CAN. Dont let that effect the integrity of the piece. Not trying to be an asshole just constructive criticism.

okay what are some suggestions on how to make the open graphic look less corporate? Also any idea on how I can keep my colors nice and bright throughout the compression process? They look dull to me after compression. Its looks good before it was compressed.
