TheatreGuy's "ID"

Hey Ted,

Just thought I'd bump your thread and repeat my endorsement. I watched a bunch of films on the plane today and watched yours several more times. The more I've watched it the more I've realized how much I wish there was a category for one-man crew productions. Seriously. You'd win that prize hands-down and I, for one, am looking forward to seeing what you can do with some help. In fact, I'm hoping some frequent flyer miles might allow you and me to work together in the not-too-distant future.

Wow! Thanks Mark. I am deeply touched.

Thank you!

And FANTASTIC WORK on Rekindled. The imagery was just beautiful. You should be very proud of that work. I can't wait to see those images on DVD (full sized and not so compressed!).

I do hope that a mutual project awaits us in the future!

Ted

Hi Ted -

I'm kinda ticked off that I can't watch your movie because I don't have QuicktimePro... I'm still running Quicktime 6.5.2 because I'm still getting the last drop out of Windows ME and they stopped the support for the updates. Even if I upgrade to QuicktimePro, my system won't play it *sad face*.

So, if you EVER decide to make it compatible with any other format, or know of a way I can watch it, by all means, HIT ME UP WITH THE INFO.

I'm jealous that everyone else can see it, but me! I have a feeling it's going to be more than I expect, and although I can hear it, I stopped playing it after a few seconds because I don't want to spoil the experience of both the sight and sound together.

Just me and my empty beer mug waiting patiently... lol
Matt (impossible)

PS: I can't vote because I only have a few posts and I'm a newbie to the forum.

hey impossible, if ted doesnt do it i'd be happy to reexport the .mov file without h.264 compression... however, i dont want to do it without ted's permission.

Hey Kyle, thanks for taking care of me here. Seriously! I just wrote Impossible a PM asking him some questions.

I'm going to PM you!

Ted

Got your PM Ted...

Awesome Kyle! I hope Ted says it's okay... been following his posts for a while (since I became a member) and I am so psyched to see it... it's like the stuff I always dreamed of doing so I know it will be a BIG inspiration. (It's already been an inspiration, and I didn't even see it!)

Let me know...

Whaddya mean I'm the last sober guy in the bar? Again?

I concur. The cinematography was exceptional considering you were a one-man show! Your acting was also exceptional and the cuss words had me chuckling. :) I am anxiously awaiting your future endeavors.

Review | POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT! I watch the movies first time around strictly for enjoyment, second and third for review.

Hey TheatreGuy. I know that I throw in every category and I'm not being lazy, I actually started looking at your thread earlier than watching the movie and so my opinions going to be biased toward your one-man crew.

For one guy, you did a crazy amount. Dedication to finish something is nuts. I'd like to see what you come up with and can do with an entire crew.

With a little fairness to all, I can say that the editing could be tightened up. I wasn't too keen on the cross-fading. I did like your basement blood, and you played dead quite well.

Scariest Part for me was the banging on the door. It didn't catch me at first, but the more it happened the more I was like "this guy's gonna get murdered.". So the door banging wins it out for me.

Thanks for exhibiting and you get crazy props for yoru oen-man army routine.

Theater Guy's I.D.

HOLY CRAP, TED! THAT WAS GREAT!!!

Did you say that that was your first short? Did you say that you did all the lighting and camera work? The lighting and camera work was EXCELLENT! This short was so entertaining! I was smiling and laughing the entire time (at how good it was)! I REALLY enjoyed your film and was VERY impressed with its solid technical execution. All of your shots were great, and ALWAYS served the story well. I LOVED the whole flashlight lighting gag--very effective and nicely shot. So far, here's how I see your film . . .

BEST in direction.
BEST in originality.
BEST in story.
BEST in execution of story.
BEST in avoiding horror-film cliches.
BEST in surprise ending.
BEST in acting [tied with Project 47: Chaos].
BEST in dialogue [tied with Project 47: Chaos].
BEST in sheer entertainment value.
DAMN NEAR BEST in picture composition, camera placement, shot design, sound design, and lighting.

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!

I liked your short Ted! I thought it was very well done and an amazing feat for your one man crew, and for the first flick you have made for something like this. I think it shows a large amount of potential and a knack for filmmaking in general. They say you have to have an eye for it, be able to feel where you want to cut the movie or the way a shot just works. I agree with this and think you have that something. I am excited to see what you come up with in the future.

great film with great creep factor ted

I liked the story and I thoiught the editing especially served what you were after very well.

some nice creepy moments and I liked your perfromance

I really liked the bit with the front door for some reason when he opens it and there are no cops there ... I think angle, cutting and performance all cohered well here.

Very approriate story for the time limit.

Dings include some sound distortion and this is a pet peave so take it with a grain of salt, but the dropping the phone, glass, tray thing in fright or from being startled almost never works and is almost never believable IMHO.

Agree that this shows a solid filmmaking vocabulary and tons of potential.

I kneel before thee, wearing brand new trousers...

Ted my man... You have an incredible eye for matching technique with story telling. All the right shots with all the right angles, exposures and atmospheres... perfect soundtrack and timing... Extraodinary and exhilirating from start to finish... One of the best 6 minute psychotic thrill rides I have ever experienced!

Well worth the wait! I have a feeling that most of the shots within each scene were shot in sequence, because the matching and continuity was almost TOO good. You really got my heart pumped...

I guess by now, you know that Kyle (what a trooper) converted *I.D.* into a .mov file that I could watch. He used a mpeg4 compression. It played wonderful and looked great. I sent him a thank you. He didn't have to do that but he did. He's a great guy!

I'm glad that your flattered that I made a bee-line for your film, but I kind of knew it was something special from the start... the way you wrote in the thread it was evident that you have a sincere passion for this stuff... and something deep inside told me that quality can only come out of that kind of passion. And, since your an actor (like myself), you must be a very observant person who sees things that the average person doesn't (like myself)... It's a blessing and a curse... For your film it was a blessing... When you try to work with others who have less of that special *gift* than yourself, it can be a curse...

I knew *I.D.* would be special... Let's just say I have a knack of always walking over to the most exspensive gem in the jewelry store. (That is most definately a curse! LOL)

Be proud of that brilliant little gem. I'm sure I'll be a better story teller because of seeing it.

May I propose a toast to TED... a truly talented and passionate story teller!
Here here! CHEERS!

Matt

Thanks TheatreGuy,

I enjoyed your film as well, I found myself constantly wanting to know what was going to happen next! I think you kept a very nice pace as well, I think thats very important, especially in a horror.
The ending was a little quick but I think worked well in the same respect.

GOOD JOB!!!

I have made my way around many films and have more to get to. Man, there are a lot of fun things to watch!!!

I am tearing myself away from the computer for a bit to prepare a special little something!!!

I'll be back!
