TheatreGuy's "ID"

John, you and I are both guilty of long, poetic posts! HA HA.

I am looking forward to both of your films. It will be very cool to see the final product after all of the chats and shared info.

Thanks for the very kind words.

I tell you, I really did have a blast making this film. I look back to the last 4 weeks and think of all of the work that I did, all of the figuring-out of stuff, how to pull certain things off and such and I am really proud of what I did.

I have showed my film to a couple of friends for feedback and they were just astounded that there was no crew involved in this film. They were floored and asked how I did it.

Then I would show them a couple of minutes of raw footage and they got a kick out of watching me "set" myself in the frame, practice my movement while looking into the LCD and then settle and call action!

It really is funny. One reason why I have SO MUCH raw footage!!!

This is what happened when I filmed Love is.... I was just placing the camera here and there, trying to get a perfect frame....going back and forth....to be honest it was fun doing this by my self coz I m not really good at directing others...I always tend to have a very clear picture in my head of what I want a scene to look like, I believe that I am very good at that, but I cant get my vision across....:(

That would take all the courage I could muster to shoot in that cemetery! Scary.
Man, I have to tell you...

That was some freaky sh*t!

I had to park my van on the side of the road, haul the body and gear up to the cemetary, shoot (over and over... by myself in the quiet location) and haul it all back down the hill.

I was so nervous that a car would pass and see me carrying this body in and out of the cemetary. (I had to do it 3 different times! The light wasn't right the first 2 times!)

Also, while I was up there at that cemetary, I did "time lapse" footage of the full moon we had last month. Talk about scary!

Alone in this field, next to a cemetary, in the dark, with my dead body!!!

CREEPY!!!! :zombie_smiley:

Oh I wouldnt be scared with that.....but it's amazing that nobody wanted to help with a scene like this one!!! I can think of a lot psychos that I know of who would jump immediately on board with a scene like this one hahahaha!

I feel very good about directing others BUT the reason I did this project on my own was that I KNEW that I was going to spend HOURS figuring out framing and such (having never made a film before!).

Os stage, the framing is set. With film, the world is your oyster! And I knew that I would try every angle and framing before I was satisfied.

Theo - you mean, you're a detail oriented little freak? I'm a detail oriented
little freak. We must get to be long life friends!!!

Ted, nice work. Your first movie? I'll leave more comments on my second pass through them. But good work.
Hey DC, thanks for checking out my flick! Thanks so much!!!

I look forward to more comments!

Ted,

I thoroughly enjoyed ID. So glad I followed your thread to appreciate your kitchen camera angles. Also, if you posted how you did the blood ceiling I didn't catch it. Point me to the post or enlighten me, ok?

I was very pleased with your pacing and framing.

Knowing you had very little in the way of a crew, I'd like to hear more about how you set up shots like your answering the door with such close framing. Did you have your wife stand in? Perhaps a framing monitor set up to watch as you positioned yourself? Or just trial and error?

Score was wonderful. Very effective.

I found your acting quite good and I can't wait to see you in something else.

I also am considering making it into a drinking game (must chug every time Ted says f*ck). That actually is my favorite section as you convey an earnest anxiety without going over the top.

For my critique, I have to say that the ending felt very rushed and out of keeping with the film's pacing. I felt like you needed a good minute or two to develop the surprise in light of having spent so much time following your character throughout the film's arc. I sort of felt like some invisible music started playing and you rushed to get off stage before the hook arrived.

But this was a very solid piece of work and something you should be very proud of. I am a fan and cannot wait to see your next one.

Thanks Mark! Great to hear from you!!!

I will share some of my secrets, like the dripping ceiling soon. (gotta get back to movies!!!)

But, yes... I did most everything myself (like answering the door) by positioning myself in the LCD.

And it is funny about the f*ck comment. LOL. I laugh at that myself.

And the ending bothers me. I regret throwing in the final 17 seconds with the wife coming home. I knew there wasn't enough time to develop this ending. I should have stayed on course.

Thanks for the comments.

I will follow-up with more!

Ted

You know, while I was watching the early parts I found myself thinking, DAMN, this is SO FRIGGIN' POE-LIKE (which is a HUGE compliment from me, by the way). It was almost an homage to Tell-Tale Heart and I especially liked the non-existent cop at the door for that reason.

That was nice. I liked it. I was wondering what it was going to be like with all those stills you where showing and your cool ladder:) I did have to watch the ending twice seemed a little snappy compared to the rest.. But man good stuff. Not sure i could hacve pulled off a one man show like you did:)

I noticed the lic tag said NH.. i was born in merrimack then moved to derry if'n you care to know that:)

DUDE iwas totally thinking that:)

Yeah, I am a HUGE fan of Poe. And it wasn't until I started shooting it which made me think of the Tell-Tall Heart. But I am sure it was there in my subconscious all along.

You have a story Theo (am I the only one calling you that?) so that's the
good part. I can see all of the hard work you put into it.

Cool! Granite-stater!

Yeah, wish I would have left the ending alone. But I was going for that "horror-ending" of unanswered questions. First time learning curve!

And thanks, it was a heck of a one-man show!

HOLY CRAP ID WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
inner demon, whoulda thunk...
great work, ted, you blew me away! i am so pumped... excellent work!
