the worst test footage you've ever seen

So I finally was able to turn this thing on after getting the front plate bored out… the nikon mount is still being machined, but i was able to jam a lens in the hole. padded the side of the lens with some electrical tape and blue tack. Got the flange distance roughly correct and was somewhat level :) :)

nikon 24mm f/2 - wide open. old s*%tty genis fader ND (made it really milky and flarey) on most footage except the end shots.
S-log 10bit 422 recorded to hyper deck prores 25p 422 HQ
film convert was a bit brutal in premier but this is sort of a kodak look :)

Haha, poor harry. Didn't even notice the footage, just wanted to see what harry would be sad about next. Even the freezer upset him! I guess that's why most test footage is of a bored girlfriend sick of being filmed by their deadbeat videographer boyfriend wondering why she didn't at least date a musician so she'd get a song out of it! Any performance value and it's not test footage any more. The music was a great choice.

Oooh... an F35 in Melbourne! Can I come round and have a play? I can bring PL lenses and a PIX for 4:4:4 :cheesy:

Holy crap, I'd fly from Brisbane to test/play with an F35 - looks great. Tape and all, haha.

Grug! for sure man. I'm working full time at a production company at the mo, so have limited time to play, but weekends are for art and camera tests :) :)

Egg - I'll be sure to get a girl for my next test ;)

the aim was to do a quick and dirty test through premier for this. but i just chucked Macgregor's anti s-log daylight balanced LUT on in davinci using data levels and it's so much nicer. now i've just got to go to work and steal some proper ND's

Sweet! I'll shoot you through a PM when I find a weekend I'm not shooting - we can put it up against my new F5 and see how it compares.

nice footage, did you add any diffusion filter on the lens? I noticed a lot of light bloom from that window, was curious if this is inherent to the F35.

nah, it's just inherent to the shitty fader ND i was using. you can see the difference between the first two shots and the last two where i took it off. i do like shooting with haze/grease/stocking filters though. they're a nightmare for grading and consistency but they add a certain vibe/grunge that'll get you a vimeo staff pick :)

probably more light leaking in behind your "tape" adapter than the nd filter. Honestly I was going to make fun of you until I watched your footage, very bloomy, but you've discovered a really cool dreamy look. Sort of like letting light leak in a film cam. Would be cool to make a lens adapter designed to let light leak behind a lens with a controllable tab. It's all a little soft on focus but you knew that. Can't wait to see what you turn out once you get your f35 rig together.
