"You know that foreign exchange student from high school who used to creep out all the girls with his clumsy leering and broken-English pick-up lines? Well, he's all grown up and somebody gave him money to make a film. Tommy Wiseau, whose accent could best be described as "half-drunk Croatian cyborg", stars as Johnny, the man with the most sculpted ass in all of San Francisco. His girlfriend Lisa, played by oft-topless Juliette Danielle, seduces his best friend, played by department store mannequin Greg Sestero. To go any farther with the plot would be overdignifying this laugh-out-loud crapfest. Imagine a two-hour episode of "Red Shoe Diaries" written and directed by Balki from "Perfect Strangers". Trust me, this is the worst movie you will ever see ever in your entire life. Ever. But is it pathetically awful or sadistically hilarious? What you think will depend on your life experiences and viewpoint. But we can all agree, it's a big, steaming nut-filled turd."
I like it! In a warped, David Lynch goes Soap Opera way, this movie looks like something worth seeing. I mean, I'm the type of person who likes to sit there with my jaw agape, repeating "Oh...My...Gawd!!!" every few minutes, so this looks like a must-see.
The worst film of all time is Soi Cowboy by Thomas Clay. I saw that in 2008, and I'm still traumatized. The Room is at least (in)famous, but nobody remembers Soi Cowboy.
I wish I could point to a trailer, but no trailer would do justice to the five minute (I timed it) long take of an old woman walking through a hallway in black and white, or the full length real time morning shower and breakfast routine of a fat Danish guy in black and white with no dialogue.
The first 40-something minutes is dialogue free, black and white and pretty much real time. Why? To show how boring his life is. How pretentious is that?
Add the fact that the movie is 117 minutes long and moves extremely slow on purpose, except for the last reel, which is in color and follows completely different characters.
I could go on, but the point is I'm sure The Room is really, really bad, but watching Soi Cowboy is like being slowly digested over a 1000 years in the belly of Sarlacc.
heads up for anyone in georgia, this movie is playing in athens this friday! here is a list of other screenings.
i recommend watching this movie from the safety of your own home first, because people apparently yell out stuff and throw spoons in the theatre.
