i have to admit i am a huge fan of his, i dont know what it is about his films but those are the types of films i want to make, especially like tenenbaums i think its amazing.

my question is what scene settings or color correction or lighting or anything can i do to get the look of his films especially the colors.

any help would be great.

i noticed that as well, and his compositions are very balanced and symetrical. but what about the color of his film. what could i do to make my DVX create an image like his.

I think the colors in his films come mostly from Production Design.

Uses wide lenses. Zoom all the way out or close to it. (all of Rushmore is a 40mm lens)
Frame symmetrically.
Pan or dolly to reveal something instead of cutting.
Wide aspect ratio: 2.35:1 or 2.40:1.

I don't think there is anything special about the way the camera captures the image. Its all about how he shoots it.

Find some American Cinematographer articles on this films and it'll tell you everything you need to know. You should be able to shoot pretty much your whole film at Z0 and F1.6, do similar compositions. Color differs from film to film, I can't say I can classify the look, other than really good production design, interesting locations and costumes, lots of details.

thanks so much for the responses so far. everything said so far is true and i am going to give some of the suggestions a shot thank you.
