The Wallet Test. Testing out shots for a Short Film. Feedback Please.

This is a new test I shot, thinking of writing a short like this, but I wanted to test out some of the shots and ideas. I'd love any feedback or criticism. I'm buying a shotgun mic within the next month so I won't have to use the DVX built in mic anymore. Was thinking of adding some quiet music to it but we'll see. Please check it out and let me know what you think. Sorry for the myspace quality.

Do you watch a lot of Ang Lee movies? It's very much a meditation on the subject of lost wallets. But given that, I still don't know what it wanted me to feel about it, nothing new or interesting was brought to the subject of lost wallets, no clear questions were put forth.

The shots were too abstract, which isn't bad if you have a theme, and were distancing. You're shooting style could work if those random shots of door handles and trees are saying something about lost wallets or inspire an atmosphere you're creating. Bernardo Bertolucci is amazing at this, you should watch some of his stuff, you might like it. Also you might want to color correct.

I dont think ive seen any Ang Lee movies, but interesting that he uses lost/stolen wallets. Thanks for the feedback. I didn't really have a solid story, just an idea that I wanted to test out with some shots. As far as color correction, I did minor adjustments to color levels in FCP but nothing major.. what did you think was wrong with the colors? just curious. And I will check out Bernardo Berolucci.. Thanks again for the feedback.

thanks man. working on fixing it. here are some adjustments I've made so far:

Yeah the color is a lot better, maybe a little to pink in the first shot. Maybe try to do a natural sound montage thing over it just for the practice of it, to see if it can punch up the emotion; you know have some dogs barking in the background or kids laughing and screaming to add some aural counterpoint to the visuals, cause I don't know if the music really works.

You may also want to check out Michelangelo Antonioni's films, he works mainly in abstract compositions.

I actually just got the Audio Technica 4073a shotgun mic so I plan to do a lot of sound work with that, i just added the music cause i felt it was flat with just the DVX mic natural sounds. Then again, it was a test so I really just need to do something with a real storyline. But I appreciate the feedback, its been very helpful.
