The Untouchables

Well, yet another "older" new film I had not seen (now for me anything before 1990 is older)... Anyway, I loved the movie. Generally I hate (yes hate) Kevin Costner in just about every movie, but he did a darn great job in this one! He played it straight, and didn't "try" to hard. DeNiro was brilliant as Al Capone, and Connery was just awesome! The cinematography and art design was spot on (though I could swear I spotted a modern day Exit sign in one shot...) but nevertheless the shots were great! I thought the pace moved along well, didn't drag for me, and I was certain I knew the ending, but alas, I predicted wrong, which I like in a film. Anyway, great movie, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Untouchable's is great - DE PALMA!

(And Walmrat has it for $9.00)

Why do so many people dis on Costner; why ?

Ah man, I'll have to go buy it! (I just rented it)

Honestly, I've never really like Costner... just not my style I guess. The only other thing I liked him in was 13 Days... and most people hated that film... I really liked it, and liked his role in that movie.

I think its Costner's "baseball hero" character that people dislike. Especially when that character is in a movie that has nothing to do with baseball.

A ton of people dog on Kevin

I love him

Fandango, Silverado, America Flyers, (Even that Amazing Stories episode), in fact

His entire career

Why? No one can ever say why.

Waterworld, and The Postman...that's why.

I guess its the same way its cool to make fun of Uwe Boll, even though most people have never seen any of his movies.

I don't think Boll is talented or makes good movies, but at least I will check them out before I make judgement.

Not to mention Costner jumps back and forth between quality roles and stuff he just likes(I guess).

Ah see... I've NEVER seen those movies :) I don't like him in, Waterworld, Field of Dreams, Open Range, For Love of The Game, Dances with Wolves, Wyatt Earp... those are ones that come to mind where I couldn't stand K.C. I can pinpoint the reason I don't like his acting too... He's so monotone to me, which works sometimes, but a lot of times it doesn't... he always plays things real low key IMO... which as I said works sometimes, but doesn't work other times... I want him to have more feeling to his characters... Anyway... there's my beef with K.C.

That's 2 movies in a career..

Why ?

You're comparing Uwe Bolle to Costner ?

House of the Dead? Alone in the Dark ?

Due makes the worst films EVER

Costner has won an Academy Award

You are not allowed to cast my films Brandon

Academy Award = quality?

I am comparing that people ussually rag on Costner for the same reason people do it to Boll. How many people have seen most of Costners movies and rag on him? How many people just say Waterworld and the Postman and think they have created some end all arguement.

Same goes for Boll, most just look at his titles and say "WORST DIRECTOR EVER".

It is trendy to dislike them.

I think Kevin Costner is falling into the realm that Burt Reynolds fell into in the 80's.

He's a good actor as long as he's acting like himself.

I really liked him in "No Way Out, " & "Dances W/ Wolves." I especially liked him in "Wyatt Earp" and "Open Range."

They do ? Wait

You're putting Bolle and Costner in the same breath? WTF ? Bolle is one of the worst filmmakers ever.

Academy Award = quality?

Example of this not being the case?

Bricey ? Who are your FAVS ?

Favorite Actors John? Let's see... putting me on the spot here... Ok, first let me say, I'll keep it in modern times (80's on) since I'm a youngin' and haven't had a ton of time to watch all the good classics.

I like: Johnny Depp
Matt Damon
George Clooney
Harrison Ford
Patrick Stewart
Kiefer Sutherland (wish he got more movie roles)
Christian Bale

obviously these guys are just off the top of my head... the first two have always been favorites of mine... And obviously these guys are all good for different kinds of roles, not every role... I'd say the most versatile of the guys would be Johnny Depp or Christian Bale.

Regardless if Boll is one of the worst film makers or not is rather irrelivant if what constitutes as a good film is subjective. Thus making it rather important to see the movie to infact declare the movie is bad. So my point is rather valid as how he and Costner can be compared to each other.

Not to mention Costner has not won an Academy Award for acting and that is what we are talking about here is it not? The few good movies(according to some people) he made in his earlier years hardly makes up for most of his junk movies in the 90s and 00s.

That's a good list BMan

I can agree

You brought him into the conversation but Ill gladly kick him out

Winning an Oscar doesnt always seal the deal on the skilly

But

Costner is solid.

The Untouchables (Connery wins the Oscar), Bull Durham (Ron Shelton is nominated), Field of Dreams (Nominated for Best Picture and Best Writing), Dances with Wolves (Wins Cinematography, Director, Editing, Score, Picture, Screenplay), JFK (Wins Cinematography and Editing) Nominated for Supprting Actor, Director, Score, Picture, Screenplay), Wyatt Earp )Cinematography), Tin Cup (Nominated for Golden Globe for Actor) .....

All signs of a hack performer

Did you even see 13 Days ? Open Range ?
